decorate awkward hallway

How do I decorate my awkward hallway?

As soon as you walk in our house I have an entry table and mirror. Then as you continue to walk I have these two large curved walls that have been empty for almost a year (IT IS KILLING ME!)

The overall theme in my house is modern farmhouse. Below are ideas I have been throwing around:

1. Shiplap the two niches and add two 24x24 pictures with wall lamps next to them (or no wall lamps)
2. Board and batten half way up the wall?
3. People said shelves but I don’t think shelves would look good.
4. People also said another entry table but I think that would look silly as I already have one by the front door.
5. Drywall the niches and then board and batten.

HELP PLEASE!!!

No to shiplap or any other applied surface added to those niches, which are meant to be clean and uncluttered areas of display. The niches are perfect for large-format artwork -- canvases or framed pieces. I'm sharing a photo of a large canvas painting in my own living space, to show you the approximate size I believe you need for your niches (ok, maybe not quite this large, but definitely not anything too skimpy either). I'm a little envious of your niches, truth be told. Fill them properly, and you'll create a gorgeous gallery in your foyer.

If they were mine, I would find two pieces of artwork I love...one for each niche.

Agree to artwork, or antique carpets etc.. You already have the lighting to showcase it.

I would remove the entry table and get one (or use yours if it fits) to place in the niche closest to the door, then place a large piece of art, or a wall hanging (tapestry, quilt, etc) in the other. Move one of your rugs down closer to the door and maybe someday, get two longer runners.

Ignore the rugs. I just haven’t bought the right size runner, so they’re just temporary.

They are art niches. They are already lighted for this purpose. I agree with the suggestions for large wall art pieces. Silk oriental rugs or large oil paintings. To follow the Joanna Gaines theme, use large architectural items such as fencing or gates.

Update... we ended up shiplapping the niches and we love it! Now it's time to add a couple of benches and art work and bam... DONE!
