I think you need to decide what will take center stage in the design of your room. I would go with the rug. Basically I agree with tennisanyone, but would love to see the furniture become a color that blends in with your rug which makes the biggest statement in the room

Yes paint the walls a light gray and have artwork/photo prints in simple black frames. This will work much better with the squares in the rug.

RIM-don't make the gray too light otherwise it looks dirty.

Also, switch the chairs. Put the couch where the chairs are and try the chairs on the opposite side.

My monitor is showing beige, blue and turquoise. Do I need to do some sort of adjustment?

I'm not sure if light gray will go well with your blue chairs. I would pick a warmer color that matches the warm colors of the rug. All the other patterns and the rug need to be switched out as others have mentioned, to give you a unified look. Good luck. You have some of the right elements in the room right now.

Without going into a lot of detail, if you like what you have the simplest and cheapest solution is to paint
ALL the walls a blue that is between the sofa blue and the blue in the rug.

I love your rug! I think it would look very nice with a rectangular, white or acrylic / glass coffee table. I also agree with tennisanyone: try placing the couches in an L-shape and then put the chairs in front of the window, maybe with your current table between them. It would be nice there with the mirror in the corner!

Sell or donate everything in the room and hire a professional. On second thought - you might be able to work with the blue chairs. They are modern but the back cushions are not modern or chic or appropriate. Nothing in the room goes together. Shop CB2 to find furnishings that are compatible with the furniture. Take the art off the wall, like yesterday. The rug is perfect. For a 13 year old girls room. Rugs are often overlooked as good investment pieces. So invest in a good one -- starkcarpet.com

It looks much better now! I would go with gray or beige pillows, not black ones.

I think you have some good ingredients in your room, just need some minor adjustments. The key is to spread your main color and accent colors throughout the space. Since the rug has a turquoise (blue w/yellow) blue and the sofas are a cool blue (no yellow), pillows with the turquoise blues and maybe adding grey on the seating would help to incorporate the blue and grey in the rug. The large patterned floral pillows fight the large design on the rug and do not incorporate any of the colors of the rug. It doesn't seem to make as much difference with the curtains since they are gathered. I agree there needs to be some warm grey and black from the rug incorporated into the room. As suggested if possible a warm light grey on the walls would help to unify the living room colors. Adding brushed nickel or painting the existing coffee table grey (or black if the walls are grey helps to have less contrast and therefore less pattern created). Side tables with accessories (large lamps since your furniture is large) reflecting the colors in your rug and furniture will also help to further unify the look of the room.

A gorgeous rug Rim! The couch really clashes with it though. If you cannot afford to replace the couches, how about using covers from them?

I think the blue sofa's are too dominating, but you could try to make it look like it was assembled together with the rug. Use different shades of blue and greige/linen on all cushions (where possible, so seats too).
The table and painting look completely out of place, so either remove them or paint them black (or replace for black). I do like the idea of pale grey walls, but a tan/sand/beige (either pale or dark) would add some earth to all the blue to ground it. If it were mine I would even dare paint a charcoal accent wall (or more).
Black and chrome modern furniture would look good, but I'd replace some seats for wooden chairs and add wood tables (natural oak).
Replace the curtains for simple white ones, the rug already has enough pattern for the entire room.
