Kitchen backsplash dilemma

last modified: 7 years ago

We would like to change our current kitchen backsplash which is 8 years old. Dilema: We have natural cherry cabinets that have gotten darker over the years. Our counter tops are black granite... not solid black but black with the gray. Our walls are a neutral medium gray. We have sampled many different tiles and none of them are giving us the "wow" that we are looking for. Our kitchen, dining and living area is all one space. We do have a fireplace with natural gray stone and stainless steel tile frames the fireplace. Our floor is a slate tile. We currently have glass tile and we are looking to replace it with something other than glass mosaic tiles. Any advice would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Checkout Fireclay Tile for some good trending choices. If you would like help selecting just let me know and we can work out a price.

Sounds like you have a lot of dark rich colors in your home. Perhaps a simple white or light grey ceramic tile would look nice. I think it's probably best to keep it simple, especially since your countertop has its own pattern. And, a lighter tile would contrast nicely with all the dark colors you have going.

What about stainless steel tiles? There are some really interesting choices that would coordinate with your fireplace.

The first mistake was too much "wow" . This is as wow as I would go. Tile Bar. Industrial stainless.

Just wanted to comment that I think your cabinets are absolutely gorgeous! But since you asked (lol), I might try a stainless sample.

I would absolutely remove that busy tile before trying to imagine other tile in its place. Or at least tape some white poster boards to cover ALL of it.

A big Thank You to all that responded to our backsplash dilemma. We loved the stainless backsplash but it seemed too modern in our space. After sampling all of the ideas we decided on one that we think will be perfect for the backsplash. Here it is... we will grout with a dark charcoal gray! Beautiful soft emerald green

Beautiful choice! Looks like the green will compliment your cherry cabinets nicely!

Why green with black/gray granite? You can have the same thing in a pale GRAY: ) glass.

I would stay away from anything with a pattern or stainless and would look for a simple solid color in a warm white or warm grey family, believe it or not a light contrasting color will make your cabinets stand out.

not necessary the same exact color, but you can see how dark cabinets, and dark counter works with a light solid color tile

@Jan Moyer... We choose the very soft green mostly because of our cherry cabinets. It looked absolutely the best. Surprised us a bit as well. We sampled so many different colors and styles and did not want it to be monochromatic.
