Johnny's catalog 2019

What a disappointment this year! I love using catalogs as references, and I prefer to make my selections using a catalog rather than on-line, I find it easier and more efficient to have everything laid out for reference in one place rather than the endless clicking and page views needed to make selections on a website. Last year's catalog was so helpful in terms of planting info and tips/tricks, and showed a much, much larger inventory of seeds available, for easy comparison while planning things. This year's catalog is a joke, there's only a couple or few of each type of vegetable listed other than the biggies like tomatoes and lettuce and such. I presume there's much more of a selection on-line, but frankly I'm kind of turned off at this point and don't have much of a desire to go hunting-and-pecking to find what I want. Hopefully I saved last year's catalog for the general info (the comparison charts were particularly helpful).

I got the catalog but haven't looked at it or any other catalog for that matter. I already made my Johnny's order using the website a few weeks ago.

I was very disappointed that a few Johnny's bred exclusives that I wanted to order are showing out of stock and have for quite some time. If they discontinue these varieties I will have less inclination to order from Johnny's in the future. Their high prices are already a reason not to give them my business.

Now this is odd. I mentioned the slimness of the catalog to my sister today, and she said she got the "big" catalog - meaning same as last year's size. What's up with that?

My 2019 Johnny's catalog is 244 pages and seems about the same size as last years.

Maybe they have a "professional gardener" catalog and an "amateur home gardener" catalog? They ask you how you categorize yourself. Maybe if you have not spent much money lately they send a small catalog? Seems reasonable.

Suppose the catalog is redundant, but catalogs can be fun to browse through since you may never click on a category online and find something you didn't know you might want.

^^ Yea, true, but the first catalog I ever remember receiving from them was last year's (the bigger one), and I had never once placed an order from them before - I was a Johnny's virgin when I got that catalog. Go figure.

I received two from Johnny's Seeds this season and both were 244 pages (they had different cover photos though). I'm sure (as noki33 mentioned) that they have a couple of versions of their catalog that they send out based on your order history and how you identify yourself to them.

Catalogs, I fear, will one day disappear. I enjoy looking through them, but a web site makes more sense as a way of presenting products to customers. It's easier to update content and correct mistakes, and probably a lot easier to manage logistically.

I usually get a fat Johnny's.. but this year I got a slim 72 page version. I haven't ordered seed from them in 3-4 years though.
