Hi guys,

I have an established Catalina plum for some time. I decided to add a pluot and I chose Flavor Queen because I wanted to add a green plum and FQ was the only available choice at that time. The nursery guy convinced me that Catalina was a good pollinator for FQ since it was a Japanese plum, even though it was not listed as a possible pollinator on a tag (Dave Wilson).

However, it never worked, even though the trees are located 10 ft from each other. I think my FQ flowered too early.

Since the Flavor Queen tree was damaged during sidewalk construction, I decided to remove it and plant something different.

Unfortunately, I can add only one pluot tree and it has to work with my existing Catalina plum.

I want to actually plant a Flavor Grenade but I might have the same problem - will FG by pollinated by Catalina? According to Dave Wilson web site Catalina plum pollinates only Dapple Dandy.

Is Catalina such a bad pollinator or Dave Wilson tags do not list it since it is not a super popular variety and they prefer to list more common ones (that what the nursery guy told me).

Could you please educate me on this subject? I do not want to plant a pluot that will not produce fruits.
