It seems like we had a little rain in October, but the little snow storms since then haven't done more than moisten the surface. I've gotten the veggie and perennial beds, trees and shrubs done over the last few weekends. The patch of lawn we keep for the dogs is getting watered today.

I got some of the newly planted plum tree, lilac, blackberries, gooseberries and currants watered yesterday. As well as some of the established trees. Didn't mess with the grass as we are killing most of it anyway.

Im in So. Col. now its been really dry down here. Although we got about 5 inches of snow last week, Ive been battling the winds which are really drying. I watered everything really good 2 weeks ago. I have trees and shrubs that i planted last spring that really need alot of attention. Last week I mounded my fruit trees up with straw for a little more protection. Hope they make it.

I got an email from my boss at work the other day... Forecasters are pretty confident we are heading into an El Nino event. Great, a cold, snowy spring. My least favorite thing about Colorado...

Until then though, I guess we'll just have to enjoy these nice days and water our plants in January...

It never fails. I went out and hand watered my entire yard and garden as it was getting desperately dry.....and two days later it rained all day.

And yes, I concur about the El Nino. I just posted in the Winter Sowing thread about this. Enjoy the good weather while it lasts! Bwahahaha.......

Laura, when I watered, the ground was so dry that it just ran off at first. I had to put down just a little, then move to another spot, then back to where I started. It was like the soils "pores" had to be moistened a bit before it could accept water. I don't think you wasted your effort at all! Now you have moisture deeper down. What falls from the sky is more efficient than what we put down, so you just did some soil prep work before the storm. Does that help? Probably not, lol!

As for El Nino, Zach, don't hate me when I say, BRING IT! I know what a pain it is, but I enjoy Ma Nature telling us to take a seat once in a while.

We got close to an inch of precip and the best kind, a good slow soaking.

What falls from the sky is also CHEAPER than what we put down!
