Front Room / Lounge Advice

last modified: 7 years ago

Hi,

Any advice on as to how I could improve this front room? Change the coffee table / have a standing lamp etc.

The ceiling light is a golden chandelier.

Any guidance welcome.

Thanks

Easy things - paint all the walls one color, move the rug under the front legs of the sofa, and exchange the coffee table for a round one. Can we see a full picture of the wall(s)?

Yes to a pole lamp on left end of couch unless you have space to pull it away from the wall a bit. And put a lamp behind it. You may need to reposition the photos--bring them a bit close together. Scotch the rug closer to the couch under the front legs.

    Bigger frames for the photographs!

Thanks, will take note of the carpet positioning as raised by each of you.

Would it be best to match the pole light with the gold of the ceiling chandelier?

If there is space to put a lamp at the back right, do you believe that would be better suited that back left?

Unfortunately the photos are canvases but perhaps they could be re-purposed in another smaller room.

Hang your canvases so they are centered on the sofa, not centered on the wall. They will be closer together, which will look better since they will "read" as one display, not scattered items. And lower them so they are about 8"above the back of the sofa. I would put the brightest one in the middle.

Even though they are canvases, they could still be framed if your budget permits, and they would look even better. Look at shadow frames or floating frames. Also relatively easy to make if you are handy.

Your 3 pillows would look best if they were the same solid color, and the same degree of puffiness.

Pull the sofa away from the wall, and away from the curtain, even by just a few inches. It will make your room look much more spacious if there is a space and shadow behind the furniture, not jammed right against the wall or curtain.

As an alternative to a standing lamp, consider a plug-in wall sconce. It would be helpful to see photos of all 4 walls of your room.

In addition to what was already said, use lamps only and not the ceiling light. The overhead lighting creates a harsh look that is not flattering to people or things.

    • This space needs better lighting. Select a floor lamp for this area.
    • Love the photographs but they are kind of lost on this wall and you can't stand close enough to see the images easily, so perhaps a canvas on the wall behind the sectional
    • You'll require an accent table since those sitting at this end of the sectional cannot reach the coffee table.
