Looks like it could be thrips, I’m fighting an infestation myself. Here’s an old post from Al on how to treat thrips that I’ve been following. I’ve seen improvements so far. (Bonus: the neem oil leaves a beautiful shine on the vegetation)

I've also used it as a drench and that seemed most effective since I was having a hard time spraying each leaf surface on my larger pothos. I believe I mixed the drench as 1 tsp pure neem oil, 1/2 tsp Peppermint Soap, and 1 qt water.

The upper insect image appears to have 4 pairs of appendages; the top pair could be mid-snout antennae, like a weevil. Weevils also have light-colored larvae.

Thrips nymphs will excrete balls of goo like your critters.

I'm not confirming thrips but I'm suspicious. :)

I don't know much about parasites in general, but if weevils are feeders like thrips, the same treatment should eradicate either. I would invest in Dynagro Pure Cold Pressed Neem Oil (available on Amazon) and start treating your plants the are showing signs of parasite infection as well as others nearby.

Weevil larvae usually feed deep inside fruits where surface pesticides don't typically reach. Thrips hang out on the surface so they're more vulnerable to that sort of thing.

Of course there are a zillion species of both groups so you can't get too general...

I used neem oil on the alocasia for several months over the summer. It seemed to decrease the rate of population growth but that was about it

Did you use it as a spray, drench, or combo? For me spraying helped some, but it was impossible for me to reach every nook and cranny. If you water the plant with a solution containing the neem oil it will be absorbed and treat the plant systemically. Also, did you specifially use the pure cold pressed neem oil or another product? Only pure cold pressed neem oil contains the compound that actually helps eradicate the pest.
