My Jenn Air has it. I love it, I use it for sponges too.

My Bosch 800 has a 3rd rack for cutlery. It’s about 2-3 years old.

My Bosch SilencePlus 44dBA has the top cutlery rack. Bought it last year at Loew’s. Funny, but I never use it as I prefer the baskets.

Samsung Stormwash; haven't used it, but we looked at it in an appliance showroom.

I am disabled from a back injury and my old KA with the top silverware rack eliminated painful bending every time I had to put a dirty teaspoon or fork in the DW. Unfortunately, it finally gave up the ghost, and I bought a Bosch 800 and then discovered the tine placement on the top rack doesn't actually hold silverware securely. It also doesn't clean the dishes, doesn't dry the dishes, smells like a garbage pit, and the repair company can't figure out what's wrong with it. Standing at the sink to wash dishes every day is just killing me.

Miele has a good third rack for flatware. I will never go back to using a basket for flatware if I can avoid it. :)

LG model LG7797ST has a 3rd rack. We love it! Cleans well. Super quiet too. Only thing is we have to use extra hot dry setting to get the water off else dishes come out pretty wet.

The upper rack in my two year old Bosch holds flatware and the occasional kitchen tool but very shallow so not much other than flatware. It also has a flatware/tool basket in the lower section but I mostly use that for small wine glasses or I remove it to fill the lower section with other things.

In Consumer Reports's testing, Bosch dishwashers performed well across the board; low-priced models performed as well as expensive ones. The reasonably-priced Bosch 100 Series SHXM4AY55N has a 3rd rack and is $675 at Home Depot. Per CR, there's little relationship between dishwashers' price and performance.

I LOVE my Miele dishwashers. They hold so much more than our Thermador dishwasher with 2 racks. The Miele dishwashers are quiet and so configurable. Our old house had 2 Mieles that were 10 years old when we moved in - lived there for 4 years and had zero issues with them.

My 1 year old Bosch has a 3rd rack for cutlery, and I use it for the occasional kitchen tool (like a vegetable peeler) and for lids of plastic storage containers. It can't take anything deeper than about 1". I love having a third rack for cutlery!

We had a miele in the uk with this. I loved it so much that when we needed a dishwasher in our new house in North America, I would only buy one with this feature. We ended up with an LG

I have a GE profile and love it! It is so quiet too, steam option and other bells and whistles I love

Thanks for all the suggestions. I have been dragging my silverware, as well as a few other things, to various dealers and have concluded that the silverware racks in LG, GE, and Miele are much superior to the "utensil" racks in some of the other brands as far as silverware goes. However, I don't think the Miele's middle rack is optimal for the stuff I need to put in it, nor will the bottom rack hold my big mixing bowls. So I'm trying to decide between an LG and a GE.

Hi warmfridge - have you decided and if so what do you think? Dishwasher research is my "final frontier" for appliances in a complete gut kitchen remodel. I'd like to stick with an all-LG suite if I can and am encouraged by the positive comments here.

I love my LG dishwasher!! It has a third rack, but my model is several years old (i.e. no longer offered), so I just went to LG's website for current offerings and found that they now have 10 models with the 3rd rack. 6 of those 10 models have an "adjustable" 3rd rack. (A new feature since I was buying.)

I'm still mulling this over. I've been looking at LG Studio and Signature and GE Profile and Cafe models. They seem to all have the same important features, except that the GE's have heated drying. Reviews are all over the place but seem to be better for the LG's, while the GE reviews mention a lot of repairs. GE parts seem readily available while it's common to wait weeks for LG parts.

Would I rather have a dishwater which works well but when it breaks down, I can't get parts in a timely fashion? Or one that has more complaints, but when something breaks, it can be repaired quickly?

IDK. I need to decide in the next week or so. As far as an LG suite goes, I don't care if my appliances match or not, but I did buy an LG fridge last fall, and it took me a while to get used to the storage configuration, but I've been very happy with it and have had no problems.

I've not had any repair needs on our LG (knock on wood), but just wanted to mention the way we handle its "non-heating" dryer is to just open the door slightly and let it air dry overnight before putting dishes away in the morning. (Saves electricity, too.)

Thanks pittsburrito. The little song is cute. :) I started looking at LG dishwashers last night on line and am liking what I see. They seem to have lots of nice features for reasonable prices. I know Miele gets rave reviews but those are well out of our price range. I would consider Bosch. Warmfridge - The reason I’m trying to do an LG suite has less to do with appearance (especially since dishwashers come workout handles) and more to do with a 10% rebate. I ended up buying an LG Studio (LSDT9908ST). I've had it about 6 weeks and I'm pretty happy with its performance. It gets everything clean, and dries everything (except things where water really pools) despite not having heated drying. The silverware rack holds a lot, and the other 2 racks are very flexible to meet all my needs. My only slight gripe is that despite this LG being rated at 40 db, it's noticeably noisier than the previous Bosch 800 series (39 db) that I had which was extremely quiet but did a horrendous job of cleaning and drying everything. I can live with this.

Our Bosch 800 series DW has a 3rd rack for flatware. It’s almost 7 years old and the model with flatware rack was best upgrade of my life. Super quiet, too. I love it. Cleans better, including casserole dishes, than any DW we ever owned.
