Is the cedar rotting or just discolored? I think I see sun and weather damage. It can be restored if that is all you need. I'd stain it in a lighter color with semi transparent stain. I think you need to decide what you will do for the siding in order to choose a roofing color. Your house would be nice with a metal roof.

What a beautiful house! That saltbox gable is just incredible! There are any number of ways to go here. My suggestion would be to first try to restore the cedar. Not only would it be the least costly, it would be the simplest, and best solution for keeping the design period of the home! No ledger stone anywhere on that house, a new front door in the same style as the house would be my first purchase.If the cedar is in good shape it might be a ble to be cleaned, some bigger windows on the main floor would have a huge impact on interior lighting replace the octogons with actual windows. I think a pale gray/ green sidind would be nice . The brick is enough along with new siding if you want to beef up the posts use the same brick or just add a railing all along the front porch

Are you going to take that stone all the way around?

I think a gorgeous dark green would look great...look at Benjamin Moore Black Forest..just Google it and look at images..
