I would love to add some color to the rug. I wasn’t sure what color or design. Maybe stripes ? Maybe blocks? Keep it masculine!!

Whatever pattern or colour you choose, you want something low pile for ease under this desk. I'd be tempted to go with an Oriental rug.

The desk is called an Aviator desk from Wayfair. I originally saw it at Restoration hardware and fell in love! The desk from restoration hardware was to big for that small room so I searched and found this one it’s about 12 inches smaller than the restoration hardware aviator desk! The rug that is currently there is a 5x7. I don’t think it should be bigger than 5x7?!?

Your chair is half on half off the rug. I think you can go bigger. Maybe tape out an area on the floor to get a better idea.

No geometric or squares/rectangles, they fight with the wood slat patten on the wall which is so beautiful. The Indian rug looks nice or some pattern with curves.

I ended up with this from Macy’s!!! But I just saw the Matador from Home Depot on this thread and I think I love it! I’m going to look online, you say bigger so the room itself is 9x12 so an 8x10 size?!?

Yes, 8 x 10 is what you would need optimally. The whole chair needs to be on the rug. Can this rug be turned the other way? Can it be returned if the wrong size?

I prefer the look of your original post. I like the color of the rug with the paneling. Maybe the rug could be larger, but I think a colorful rug ruins the feel of the room.

The larger rug looks much better. I would pull in the silver gray color from the desk (that's bitchin') into the rug, perhaps in an ombre look with some browns and muted orange/reds. Keep any pattern small, that desk and panel wall need to remain the stars of the room.

When you said you wanted colour in your rug, I understood it to mean colours that weren't currently in the room. The one you found today doesn't really introduce colour, imo.

Agree with Jan. Let the stars of the room be the wall and desk. Any rug with pattern will take the focus away from the really cool elements of the room. Go with something neutral.
