How old is your son?

How wide is dresser and how high is footboard of bed. Trying to figure out better space plan/layout. Furniture looks too big for size of room. Tee Pee has to go. At least for now. Does he use rocking chair?

I'm thinking the rocking chair needs to go. I would not use the dresser as a nightstand. What are your colors - navy, green and orange? You need more to tie them all together. Perhaps a window valance?

Can you move the bed down and place the dresser under the window? It's going to be a bear to make that bed.

It might work to put headboard under window, and bookcase at foot of bed. If that dresser stays, put on other side if possible. Buy new small night stands with drawer and shelf. Larger lamps. Pick up maybe apple green for lamps. This might make room for small desk where that bookcase is now. Even just a table for now. Need size of room to figure out how space could be best utilized.

Might not look like best arrangement but does leave good sized open space for your son to play. If he really likes teepee, good place to stash it and then pull out for play. Window valance or plain curtains would be good addition.

Hi all, thank you so so much for your help! As you can tell I’m totally lost with this room. My son is only three so I really want to keep at least one side of the bed along a wall to minimize him falling out of bed on both sides.

It sounds like everyone agrees room measurements and furniture measurements will be very helpful in solving this dilemma. When he wakes In the morning I will take measurements and update everyone.

The teepee might do well as a designated play area for him in the adult space. You can start teaching him to put all his toys in it at the end of the day. Every child has fallen out of bed I imagine. You can get railings to put up on both sides if you believe it is a concern. I'd like the bed centered under the window and the dresser left where it is. Arrange the 3 plaques over the bookcase, ducks/truck/bucks 5" above the dresser, and continue with the collage on the other wall. Angle his rocker with its back to the door in front of the bookcase. Cute room!

put some pillows on the floor if you're that concerned about him falling. after once or twice, the body seems to learn to stay in bed. He'll be fine. Easier for you to make the bed too.

There are devices to attach to bed to help children not fall out. Kind of like training wheels for beds!

Try to move bed to the opposite side and have headboard under the window so the bed is still against the wall on the left. If the dresser fits next to the bed under the window move it there. If it doesn’t get a small desk and put it next to the bed under the window and a chair so he can get used to reading or drawing there. Take rocking chair out and tepee. Get light colour desk and chair. If dresser fits under the window then put the desk in its place. Tall and of the bed makes room look cramped and small, it is possible to make it shorter just above the mattress height but you will need a handy person to do that .

Actually it is unusal for a child to fall out of bed after about 2 yrs of age they have the same spatial thing in their brain as we do and we don’t fall out of bed. As for the layout of the room I think the bigger the space to play the better, could his clothes not all be in the closet then a table would be a nice addition for drawing and playing. It could be used as an end table with a lamp next to the bed.. I find all the really dark furniture a bit overwhelming in a kids room.The rocking chair can go unless he loves it. I think the teepee is fine where it is and if he likes to go in there keep it.

Overall I want to try and give him the most space possible to play since he is still very young while still having a somewhat nice looking room. I don’t want to paint the furniture nor buy new furniture so I want to try and make lemonade with these “lemons”. I am willing to paint the walls, rearrange existing furniture, and purchase more decor items to help this all come

I'm a dissenter here - I love how you have it arranged for now. You can always move the bed in a year or so! Now, it's important for him to have play space so that he learns to entertain himself sometimes - and the room as arranged gives plenty of open space for fun activities. Add someting soft to sit/lean on in the teepee, and a small basket so that he can stash some toys neatly in it.

He’s still really really little. What are the goals for the room? To me, it looks fine. Have you tried moving to bed out into the room? What are his favourite things to do? or favourite things in general? What do you think he needs? Kids usually love rocking chairs as long as they fit into them. Older kids sometimes want a desk or table, and he might need more shelves. Does he have friends/family stay over?

Honestly, I would leave pretty much all of it. Paint the walls if you are looking for a change. At first glance without reading the post, I would have guessed this room belonged to an elementary school aged boy. Remove the rocking chair and paw patrol stuffie, and it very much looks like a “big boy” room. Keep the teepee if he likes it. Even my 10 y.o. would enjoy reading in there. Visually, the room would look a little better with the bed pulled away from the window wall.....right now the furniture is hugging all the perimeter.

Keep the teepee if he uses it; otherwise, remove it. I would keep the current layout but move the bed away from the window and move the dresser a little further from the bed. Then find a large dinosaur print or two, frame and hang above the dresser.

It seems like you found the best furniture layout! A few tweaks to finish it off for him. Move the ruler to the corner at closet door hinge. Move dresser slightly closer to closet away from his head. Inside the teepee, if it stays, add fluffy area rug in irregular shape and a floor pillow. Add more pops of orange to brighten the decor: orange lamp shade, orange floor pillow, orange seat pad is rocker stays, maybe paint an orange stripe around the window instead of window trim, paint stripe on the wall slightly larger than the set of wood plaques as a “frame”, woven window pull down shade if light shines in the window at night. Hang a bulletin board at his height to display photos of his friends and his latest drawing.

Does this bed have a trundle for sleepover friends?
The teepee does seem a bit small for the room, but you could make a larger teepee for two using sheets stapled to the walls to make a teepee in a corner. Two chairs for your son and a friend. A small game table. A larger dresser for larger clothes.
The main difference between a nursery and a big-boy room is mostly in the colors and toys....easy to fix.

Yeah, it's a great idea to implement! I also love the little teepee, and it makes the room more creative and wilder. For sure, the kid's room is their escape place from the world to their imaginary land. That's why it needs to be creative and gamey. Like my daughter Sabrina, she is so into art, and I did some decoration changes to her room. I know she loves theater. So I made here a little scene. So she can practice at home as much as she wants for her theater Jazz Class. We discovered that she is so talented from just our family activities 親子活動, and I'm so proud of her.
