How effective is the rain chain?

I have the same overhanging roof and do not want to use a conventional gutter and downspout. I was going to place a rain chain at the corner of the bottom edge of the slanted roof to catch the rain. Why did you place it here?

We place rain chains where gutters terminate to provide a more artful, decorative conduit for the runoff. So we don't really use them without gutters.

I am very interested in using them. However we are in southern Ontario and get frequent downpours and I am concerned they would not replace the downspouts. The overhanging roof of of the porch cover is my major concern. Any info is much appreciated. Thank you for your comments.

Well, it seems in your case you would do well to stick to downspouts. Sounds like you could do some amazing rain collection!
