Not sure you saw, but I can't fit sconces with the 1-mirror option. Would have to be overhead unless I find a really slim sconce that works with the room. That's one of the reasons I'm conflicted or I would be going with the 1 mirror...

My first thought was to go with the single mirror, but lighting is so important especially in a bathroom. I’d go with the double mirrors and the lovely sconces you’ve chosen! And I think it would balance out the room better as well.

A bathroom is--first and foremost--a workspace. You need good, even light at face level. You do NOT want the clear glass ribbed sconces, which will blast you with harsh, strong, single-point wavy light. You want frosted/white glass to diffuse and soften the light.

Option 1, but with the sconces lower. I have strong lighting over my mirrors and I can tell the difference. I wish I had the room to do lower sconces, but I had a cabinet on the side wall on one side that prevented that. Luckily, I do not wear make-up and DH does not care, since he has never had side sconces and does not know what he is missing!

Love your bathroom! So classic and beautiful. For function, assuming you want the best lighting for getting ready/makeup, I would do one big mirror and an LED tube type light above. There are many pretty options (do you have a Ferguson in your area? You could go crazy in there). In my experience sconces provide terrible lighting for getting ready. They’re more for the looks.

I would put the double mirrors together to give illusion of one large mirror but more detailed then mount sconce to either side 60”-70” height from floor,, balance mirror(s) height with sconce height,, looks lovely and great mirror choice

I would choose the two individual mirrors! I think the extra sconce would bring more light into the bathroom and really open the area up!

I would choose the second option.

Normally I would always say two mirrors, but for some reason in your space I feel like one large mirror would be better. Maybe it's because your sinks aren't that far apart. Or maybe it's because of the monochromatic color scheme it could use more "life". But I would do one large mirror in that particular bathroom. Then sort out your lights however you need to after that.

JR T - that single mirror has been in my mind since long before my bathroom came to be, but my older daughter wants 2 (younger wants 1 ... son doesn't care ;) So I found the 2 mirror option. But if not for everyone swearing by side-sconce as best, I think that single mirror would have already been up by now because I prefer the function of one mirror providing more reflection area and making the space feel wide open ;)

Nancy in Mich, you are right about lower/eye-level sconces. I should have mentioned in my initial post that the sconces between the two mirrors WOULD be lower than the picture I posted of the two-mirror-option...in reality I would put the sconces at face level (I'm in MI too, btw :)

tatts - Thank you for that comment about the clear glass, it was a concern I've had since I fell in love with them. I actually hate what clear-glass/exposed bulbs do to my eyes....I also worried about the fluting creating a reflection of light scattered in the way a crystal chandelier does...was going to post a separate quw=estion about it but now I don't have too :) They have a frosted version not quite as pretty but I am all about function first (hence the choice of porcelain 'marble' in lieu of the real deal) If I go with the 2 mirror / sconce option, I will go go with frosted glass

Karen - thank you for your kind words and advice as well. I tried very hard to make this a very light/bright bathroom for my kids currently, but that will have some timelessness to it so that I can still like and enjoy it after they are all off to college. I have to ask, have you actually had a bad experience with side sconces at eye level? People SWEAR it is the way to go, but I always wonder about the reality from those who have actually had both. I have had the additional recessed lights above each sink, was hoping that would boost either option (side-sconce or overhead light).

tvq1 - Thank you! The vanity is made by Mission Hills and I bought it through Costco because I needed a vanity in a hurry in order to keep up with the contractor! I think it is the Parker 60" but it also comes in 72, is well-made for the price and it arrived in less than a week!

SReed - Thank you :) As far as putting the two mirrors together together though, I would be concerned that they would be too offset/far from the sinks? I do wish the one big mirror was a few inches more narrow ...

LAST QUESTION:

If I end up going with the 2 mirror option, do you think that having only 1-2" of wall space at the top is ok? I wanted tall mirrors so it would make the room feel taller/larger, and I like the unexpected drama of it in a classic space (why i did the large niche as well) ....but I held two posterboards up to simulate the 24 X 48 mirror over one sink and it truly only leaves 1-2" of wall area on top and bottom.

I should also mention that the two mirror option only leaves 7" of space between my right wall and outer-edge of right mirror (7-8" of space between mirrors ....left side of left mirror is open to wall behind toilet)

I'm ok with it but if anyone has a strong opinion against it, please chime in!

I actually thought the two mirrors have more going on because of the extra framing/bevels/"lines"....but there is something about that 1-mirror option that I also like as well....maybe that it will reflect more of the new shower and open up more space to the eye (and perhaps that is what you meant).

Just an aside, the monochromatic color scheme was to serve to make the space feel both fresh and calm at the same time, but also to serve as a blank canvas for splashes of other textiles/accessories as seasons/moods/times change :)

I have no problem with monochromatic whatsoever, but the catch on that is not falling into a boring trap. You are going to need something to bring some "wow" to that bathroom. And so that's where I was going with a large mirror. And then maybe it's a chandelier. Maybe it's gold hardware on the vanity. But it's going to need to be something, it's very pretty, but it's going to feel "flat" without it.

Will anyone be using the space in between the two sinks to set items while getting ready? Things like makeup, hair brushes/products, etc.? If so, one large mirror would make those tasks easier.

As for lighting, I do like a combination from above and side, less shadow effect. Can always put them on dimmers. Agree about frosted glass versus harshness of the clear.

The size of your separate mirrors seem tall for the space. If I were you, I would probably go with the single larger mirror because I think it will fit your space better, and properly positioning sconces for a variety of growing users could be challenging.

After much deliberation and taking all the input into account...I just ordered the two mirrors.

While I loved that single mirror option, I wasn't crazy about the light options I found to fit above it. And since I really did like both the 1 large and also the 2 single mirrors, I figured I couldn't go wrong :)

Post pics when done. You said this is for a kids’ bathroom right? Then I wouldn’t worry too much about lighting, do what you like. If you have any girls, they can always get the lighted makeup mirrors. It is going to look beautiful!
