You don't have enough room width for an island. Small kitchens have the most issues trying to work with limited size cabinets. You need to draw out the room with accurate measurements before anything else happens.

I'm guessing you're wanting to have a dishwasher? I can't see one so I don't know, but that may be why you want to go straight across...

If you do, I would have an island on wheels that you can move out of the way.

If you're selling in the next year, gray is still popular in most places...so what about gray Bodbyn on the bottom and white on the top (also there are glass doors that are the same line that you could do on either side of your window for dishes). Before you decide, get some paint chips that are as close to your appliances as possible and carry that around with you. Sometimes 2 whites won't work, and I'm not sure about the Ikea whites...

One of the best thing about Ikea is that it's relatively inexpensive to pop new doors on, especially in a smaller kitchen. They're all interchangeable.

I think it will be adorable.. Play around with the Ikea kitchen planner tool and post what you come up with.

the new cabinets will be installed in an L shaped configuration. Do you think that layout is still too small for an island? the room measurements are 11'x12', but there is a walkway on one side, so it is effectively 11'x9' of cabinets.

I think it will be hard to match whites, so you might be best selecting one of the colored options. But if you are going to sell, is it a good idea to spend on a kitchen? You might not see it back.

There is a metal unit of some kind under the clock - is that removable? If so consider placing the fridge there at te start of the L. Then you can better center the rang on the range wall. I have a 12.5 x 12.5 L shaped kitchen and do have a small island. Sorry, I do not have any info on Ikea:)

My honest opinion, no disrespect....With an already small kitchen in need of storage, the shelves are limited, hence why the kitchen looks messy. I really love the color combinations you have and see you are are not afraid to be different and embrace color. With the house to be sold soon I would suggest adding more wall cabinets and just keep one set of shelves to have a little of both and make them in wood to break it up.

The kitchen is beautiful, but I get distracted with at all of the items on the shelf.

I would also clear the counter of clutter as best you can.

Movable island is a great idea for a small kitchen.

You can stick with white doors.

It will be very tight...the best thing you can do is to use the Planning tool on the Ikea website. It will give you an accurate representation of the space.

IMO if sale is in the near future I would leave it as is since anyone who buys will probably do a complete redo, clean declutter and leave it.

Agree - don't bother, you won't get your investment back on resale. It's a cute kitchen with a vintage vibe. If you feel the need to do SOMETHING, upgrade the hardware (glass knobs/pulls?) and declutter - maybe upgrade the faucet?
