Hi,

I only have one wall in my dining room where I could put a buffet/server. The wall is 7'6" wide and on one side ends at a doorway opening into the kitchen. That doorway is also used to get from our family room to the front door and the stairway to the second floor. The doorway opening is 35" (no casing).

I like this buffet but it is 68" wide, which would leave only 5" on each side. Is that too large for this space? If so, how much space should I allow for on each side? I had a designer at Ethan Allen try to sell me another set where the buffet was 70" wide and she said it would fit fine.

I may not be able to use this one anyway because I have an air return vent on that wall that is close to the floor and would show. Not sure what would be involved in moving the vent higher. But I like the open space on the bottom because I think it will help keep the room from looking too closed in. The room is only 12' by 13.5".
