I hear you! The Cape was 8* at 6:30.

Not a north-facing bathroom, but might as well be because direct sunlight is completely blocked by the house next door. However, it is blessed with an oversized cast iron radiator so it was lusciously warm this morning despite the cold (6F, -9F wind chill here).

Windchill of -31C when I left for work this morning. We are dressed in multiple layers here and it isn't helping. I'm cold just sitting at my desk. I have a lovely window view but the windows are letting the cold in rather badly and this is supposed to be a high efficiency LEED certified office building. If I put on any more layers I won't be able to type.

Well, even sunny Florida had almost freezing temperature this morning. I woke up to 34 degrees. Almost a heatwave for the rest of you. :)

Well, it's about 50 where we are right now in Southern CA and feels cold.

It was about 4 degrees this morning, and I have a bathroom on the northern side of the house. The bathroom does have its own register, so I keep the door closed -- makes it quite toasty :)

We DO have radiant floors, but it’s an older heater and a very old house, the bathroom was pretty much the only room that did not get gutted (old windows, old plaster) plus it’s an exposed brick wall, so the cold from the brick is going right to the toilet. I ran an all hot water bath this morning and it was still sort of tepid because the tub was ice cold. At least it’s not as bad as one place we were in that had a kitchen over a crawl space, mops would freeze to the floor in winter.

I worked in an office once where the air con was on 365 days of the year, so in the middle of summer I’d wear nearly floor length wool sweaters (possibly over a sweater dress and tights) and still be chilled when I walked a few blocks outside. It’s annoying to be so bundled up when you are trying get work done.

missenigma, that's what my brother in Kansas City says. I swear, it can seem like we're on different planets sometimes.

It’s 7F/ -12F wind chill here. My husband is in Sweden and he said Stockholm is warmer!

We are at 1 now thank god for the wood stove!

We got down to 8 degrees F last night (that's -13C for those of you who like to complain about the cold). I blame the Canadians for leaving the door open again.

Now at noon, we're at our projected high for the day, 15F with 20 to 30ph winds. Wind chill -2F. Yikes.

On the plus side, the 3rd week in January is, historically, the coldest of the year, so it's uphill from here.

I get what you’re saying! Wind chill -18 F this morning. North facing bedrooms with 3 (leaky) windows. The curtains were moving! Did NOT want to get out of bed.

I'm just excited that the pipes didn't freeze, without our having to use a space heater all night -- the results of a half day of effort on my part heat-wrapping the 3 feet of pipe that are reachable between entry in a chilly closet and disappearance into the walls... :))

My main floor north facing bathroom is toasty because it has the same size heating supply duct as the two bedrooms on either side. The master suite upstairs is darn cold this morning because only the master bath has a heat register. The remainder of that space reminds me that this project won't be finished until we install a minisplit system to keep the upstairs comfortable.

It’s always in the 60’s or 70’s year around where I live ... some people say they would miss the seasons, not me! I can’t remember when I last wore a coat or jacket.

And that's exactly why we all hate you, K Laurence.

But we'll get over it in April; we always do.

A bit chilly here in Fla too! It’s been a rather cold winter so far but I’ll take our southern chill to that northern freeze anytime! Hoping things warm up for you all up there soon!

I want to live where K Laurence lives! It's been pretty cold in the Dallas area, but after seeing newscasts of our friends in the northeast and reading these posts, I am committed to stop my whining. I honestly don't know how you all survive those temps. One of my master closets is on the north wall and has no heater vent in it. It is like walking into a meat locker on winter mornings.

we live in an 1870 house that has uninsulated walls. but our windows are new... we huddle by windows. : )

our best feature is a gas furnace that runs at two levels.... high for when you change the thermostat up, and low to maintain. when its this cold (boston, single digits all day) it just runs continuously at a very low level but makes the 65 setting feel toasty.

we abandon our north facing master bath that has its own electric heater. we leave the door open to the bedroom so it doesnt freeze the pipes, but use the hall bath that has its own register and is Too Hot if you leave the door closed. so, we leave the door closed.

The only thing worse than a north facing bathroom is a north facing bathroom over a garage. Now that’s cold. :(

Well, it's a balmy 71 degrees where I am now..... :) Sorry to rub it in..... :)

We go to RI in the summer. It has been fourth years since we have spent a winter up there! I think the worse thing is a cold bathroom. I told hubby the only way I could do it is to have in floor heating and a heated toilet seat! Hate that shock in the middle of the night!!!

ninigret - I'm in Boston too and our house was built in 1885 -- its quirky & cold!! The first floor doesn't go above 60 no matter how high you blast the heat (close to the floor its actually 47) , the 2nd floor is comfy at 75, and the top floor is so dang hot, I actually have to open a window even thought its currently -1 ... which feels warm after yesterday.

Yep our house is weird too, basement is toasty as the concrete is a better heat source, also stays pretty cool in the summer, in fact our house excels at keeping cool, we barely feel the need for ac, thankfully, because we don’t have one. The middle upstairs room is always off because it’s trapped in the middle and our neighbours house is 3’ away, I kind of wish the bathroom was there and not taking up the end of the house.
