Lots and lots of choices out there. I would see a bunch in real life and then google pictures of my faves in situ. Personally, I would skip faux marble. Try Glacier White Corian with marble subway backsplash. You get the great marble in your kitchen without the patina and an easy care countertop that is much cheaper than quartz.

Go visit local stone yards to see what real marble looks like.

This is LG muse, its more of a carrera look. It has a whiter base and relatively quiet veining than many of the other options I looked at. I was recently given some actual marble cheeseboards and put them on top for comparison. Side by side you can tell which is which, but honestly its pretty close. I've been asked about my "marble" countertops by a few people including a contractor and realtor... so there's that. Anyway, I'm happy with it.

IF you want a brighter white background try looking at some samples of MSI Q.

They have some good ones

Nothing beats wearing out shoe leather in the slab yards. You can't do this online.

You do really need to visit stone yards and countertop places to see them in person. There were a few I selected online that looked different in person. Some of the subtler color differences don't come through online. I selected LG Soprano as I didn't want a bright white.

You need to look in person and bring a white sheet of paper ... some of the "white" marble look quartz have backgrounds that are more gray, cream/beige, soft white, etc, so you need to make sure the tone will complement you other elements. Also watch out for funky showroom lighting!

Always bring your cabinet door with you and a backsplash tile if you have picked one... these may help your decision

Just to give you an idea. This is my current kitchen. Im going for a modern look. I like marble like quartz, but if I can't get the look, Im considering going on the plain, polished quartz look too.

I just thought the Marble like quartz will tie in the rustic wood beams. I also like the Aurea Paragon. Does anybody have experience with that? Seems like a serious investment. Does it really look like marble? Gonna go to my 3rd Stone yard tomorrow. Agree with the funky showroom lighting. I dont understand this, dont these people want to sell an accurate look of their product? I will be bringing a sample of the doors and floors tomorrow.

I've done real Carrara marble in 4 different kitchens, so I'm pretty familiar with the look. Originally, I wanted to do a marble-look quartz for my current kitchen & visited several stone yards to see slabs. To me, these looked by far the most realistic in comparison:

That being said, I ended up choosing real Carrara for my kitchen yet again. Although I liked the three options above, I just couldn't justify paying an additional $2k to get a fake version of something I love. My sister has AureaStone Paragon in her kitchen & absolutely loves it though.

ETA: The Silestone was quite a bit cheaper than AureaStone when I priced it out. It also had more of a pure white background, whereas the AureaStone was so much cooler that I could pick out blue undertones.

Fordido, thanks for your input. Thats what Im starting to realize. I will never get the look of marble. either I get a beautiful quartz that I like, maybe with some movement. Or I will go with Quartzite. Ive looked at slabs today. Much as I love marble, in a busy house with 3 kids, I dont think I will give it enough care. Ill check out Silestone too.

Make sure you read up on quartzite. Lots of threads here. Some quartzite is mislabeled and is really marble. Some quartzite is a mix of marble and quartzite and will have some characteristics of both stones.

Read up on Karin_MT threads, which will give you some tests that will help you when looking at slabs.

I went with Taj Mahal quartzite, which is more off white, creamy beige with brown veins. It passed all the test and is pretty bulletproof.

If you are keeping your cabinets, you are never going to achieve a modern look. Did you mean an updated look?

Yes we're gonna update it. Cabinets still in good shape. Will paint the cabinets doors white and change hardware. and change lighting.

We wanted to go the quartz route until we saw the natural stones. We ended up purchasing super white quartzite and don’t regret it one bit.

I just put in LG Karis. It’s similar to Muse but has slightly darker grey movement throughout the slab. Its base is not quite as bright white as Muse, but still looks very good with my bright white cabinets. I’m very pleased with it and find that it truly does look a lot like marble.

Cambria Brittanica. Not as gorgeous as the natural stones but white with the lovely veining.

Alanalinette, do you have any pictures of your Karis to share? That’s that one I’m looking at.

Hope this helps. For reference both my cabinets and subway tile are very bright white, though I do have warmer recessed lights (2700 kelvin). I’m happy with Karis even though marble makes my heart skip. But with three small kids, it’s just not in the cards right now. Can’t wait til the kitchen is completely finished!

Thank you! That is helpful. Your kitchen is going to be beautiful. My cabinets are what I would call a warmer white without being yellow, more of a gray undertone actually. But in evening lighting they can look creamier. I thought my Karis sample was warmer/creamier in tone than some others I looked at. Do you find the Karis to be bright white then? This is the sample next to my cabinet in daylight and evening.

Can you get to Central New Jersey? Go to the MSI showroom. They're lovely, and helpful, and you can see full slabs of of the quartz. If you can, bring one of your cabinet doors. I was having a problem finding the right white since many quartzes I looked at were too creamy. I went there recently and found something I love, and bought, that's new, not even on their website or in any kitchen showrooms I've been to. I bought a piece, Calacatta Bruno, because it's great in my bathroom, but they've got loads.

Also, they'll ask who sent you. Have a name ready, like your contractor, or Home Depot, or anything. I'm just not sure if you can say you just walked in on your own. It's not a big deal.
