OK-i couldn’t wait for measurements so I just did this concept sketch. I can do a scale drawing when I get the measurements. I totally guessed but I love the idea of a round rug in the main seating area. I also like the pink sofa angled toward the front door. Along entry wall a great long console with a pair of contemporary, glam mirrors above. A trio of 3 chandeliers. One at entry, one over seating area and one over dining table. A upholstered oval tufted bench adds a but more seating in conversation area. A oversized floor lamp with awesome large shade, maybe purple sits behind sofa creating some separation of seating and dining. Two large art pieces adorn each area. A large round glass dining table with beautiful base highlights the dining room. The chandeliers do not match but the share elements such as metal color and some interesting crystals. Enjoy!

I would do a custom rug of course!! The OP works 12 hour shifts so she is probably sleeping! We need to give her some time.

Btw, my rationale for the sofa angled that way is so the sofa is center point for all lines of sight from front entry dining room and other points of view. It’s beautiful profile is worth highlighting. Love it.

Yes it can. Softens the space up especially in such a large room. I am guessing this space is around 38’ long by 18-20’ wide. So defining space is helpful and with a glam look very pretty too.

The sofa is 98” and it is straight. Hard to tell what’s possible without measurements though. I have no problem with angling a sofa, I’ve done it in my own house. I’m not personally fond of round rugs but that’s a personal choice. Nourison will do a custom round in 10’ and 12’! They have lots of beautiful patterns.

I'm not pro, but my eyes tell me that curtains could be fine where rod is because the door top also is that height, and the ceiling rises in an angle... imo, try it there.... the little window between include in curtains idk !!

The Pellot rug would be pretty paired with this rug for different parts of the room, I think. This contemporary floral only comes in an 8’ x 10’ for the largest size.

A couple tips on chandeliers. With that ceiling height, chandeliers with posts won’t work. You will need chain (order extra for each chandelier) and you will need to determine size once furniture layout is finalized. Most common mistake in hanging fixtures is the are hung too high. Bottom should be about 7’ from floor. Lower over tables and seating arrangements. I can guide you on that once i get room measurements. Next step is really measurements. Please if you can.

Here is "Option 1". We can play with placement of sofa, but these dimensions are somewhat limiting.

I put a rectangular glass top table at approx 72x42" since you need chair push back space around this table. The long items on walls are mirrors (over entry console) and art on long wall. Sizes to be determined. I didn't put rug in yet. Once you settle on basic arrangement, then we can do a rug. A 9x12 will probably work, placed with the 12' across the space and the 9' front wall to back. NOTE: I do not have a good feel for that entry wall on what I think is front of home? Door width? position of what looks like an angled wall at the front entry? So, this drawing will need revisions but it is a start.

Option 2 has the sofa on the long wall, and it provides space for a tufted "bench", so that has a bit more seating than Option 1.

Option 3 - this option leaves the living area the same, but changes the rectangle table for a round 60" table. Both tables would seat six comfortably, if the chairs are narrow at the front edge, you could squeeze 8 into the round table. 8 would be tight on the rectangle unless you got a longer table so you could put 3 chairs on each side. Chairs usually are about 22-24" wide at the front edge then you need to leave a little bit of room for sliding in and out easily.

Take a look at these and see what appeals to you most or other changes you would like me to try.

OK, that helps a little but is the front door on an angle? Kind of strange but I don't think this matters too much. Any of my layouts would work, although the length of the console might have to be shorter, given the pop out for the stairs. That looks like it cuts about 24" into the space.

I agree everdebz. I thought it was much bigger. That’s why I always want measurements. The width at 16.5 means with a 3’ walkway and you have only 13.5’ space for furniture. Plus remove around 2 more feet on that stairway side the space is tight. High ceilings always create this illusion. But good we are getting a better understanding of the space now.

I still like the sofa in front of the window. With dramatic drapes and a chandelier I think it is the sweet spot in this room!

My last input will be is when you look for chairs try to find ones without legs! As your sofa has legs and your dining room will be in the same space the room can get very leggy looking! The more solid bases of the chairs will add some “ leg” relief! Here are some styles; pay no attention to color, they come in other fabrics!

Love the zebra rug Alana showed. I think the black, white , blush combination really takes the room to another level. The upholstery pieces could still be soft/ light, but a little zebra really adds a touch of crispness , modernity and good contrast . It could be layered on top of a sisal that is a larger size in order to fill and soften the space more.—- To Lynartist’s point, maybe a round pedestal table would alleviate some legginess, too.

I think all of this depends on the look you want Selena and of course your overall budget. I think everyone has given you wonderful inputs. Now it is up to you what direction you think best suits your desires. We can find pieces in any budget/price points but it is best to have an overall plan first so in the end everything is cohesive. When you have a little time, start building an ideabook here on Houzz of things you like. That will help you get focused and keep you on track.
