Me, I am just lucky to be able to grow subtropicals in the Middle of the States. As far as taste is concern, the best taste of citrus you got to hand it to California, ideal soils and temps. As long as my citrus taste better than storebought, i,m good. I can,t ask for more!

Laura, that is one good looking 'bloody orange'..Ha. Was it very sweet? How was the acid chart on a scale of 1 to 10? If low, I will get one just as Josh also has been encouraging me to do)

Wow Bob, that is impressive! K - thank you. I will file that one away for future use! Mike, it was pretty sweet....scale of one to ten....maybe a 4. It was very sweet. I've never tried a blood orange as sweet as that one. My other ones were good, but maybe I've picked them too soon. Next year I'm going to leave then on till mid Jan.

That's a great looking blood orange Laura! From what I've seen and read, the cooler the temps, the darker the blood. Apparently to get that deep dark purple/black colour moros get, you need to have very cool temps and during the day a somewhat warmer temp.... let's say 35F Night and 55F Day and longer time on the tree will get that deep colour.

Regardles, I actually like that tone of red, looks very nice... almost reminds me of the Sanguilenis that get a lighter shade of blod.

Laura I’m so jealous!! My Moros are getting bigger but so far about the size of the end of my thumb still a long way to go I’m afraid :) I’ve just picked a Santa Theresa lemon last night and the smell is out of this world. Maybe I picked it too early it wasn’t very juicy but as I was squeezing the juice into a cup my hands were dripping not with juice but with essential oils from the rind! Its perfumed my house with such A clean almost floral lemon scent for a whole two days it’s amazing! I gotta say it’s one of my favourites now :)

That's a gorgeous blood orange, well, what's left of it! I'm soooo hoping my tree will make fruit this year after blooming for the first time last summer. It's funny that you are getting fruit from a relatively small potted plant and my eight-foot tall in-gound tree only had fruit when I brought it home from the nursery years ago. As I recall, that fruit had a nice blood red to it. Apparently my dense, poorly drained clay soil is a big hurdle for some citrus to overcome.

Thanks guys, Dave, it had some pretty cool temps before I brought it in for winter, but once inside, it has been consistently in the mid 60s. Maybe the outdoor temps stressed it out enough! Jan, that is a beautiful lemon! The ST is one of my favs as well. I suspect you picked it a bit too early. Let the next one stay on the tree a bit longer. Mine have a good amount of juice. John, I find it hard to believe myself. You get some pretty cold temps there, so when that tree decides to produce, I suspect you will be overwhelmed with them!
