@ofer4 What did you end up getting? I'm in the same dilemma. Want to get Provia for front entry door but read how expensive it is. Therma Tru didn't appear to have good reviews.

Well, the consensus was that the Provia bid was insanity. :) It was provided through Renewal by Andersen, and their business model (at least around here) is consistent with this bid-the-sky-and-hope-for-a-sucker approach. If you get a better price through another dealer, you might still consider it.

We ended up getting the Therma Tru door, with some better-than-average hardware. We're pretty happy with it. It's clear that some corners were cut in the quality of trim pieces, etc., but you'd really only know this by looking closely while sitting on your porch. It looks and functions quite nicely. Our painter brushed some General Finishes stain and sprayed GF exterior poly, and it passes for a real wood door from the street.

If I was to do it all over again, I'd probably get a real wood door personally. But a close second would be the Therma Tru. Given the 2x price difference between these two options, I guess I should be happy with our choice!

Jlpaca, it doesn’t hurt to get a Provia quote from a couple of places. We are getting our back door replaced with a Provia door and it is only 3,000 including install. Since it is a back door, we are not getting anything fancy, just a full length window in the door. We first got a quote from a handyman to just replace the door with a steel one from Home Depot and that was a 1,000. So we are paying 3x as much but the door is much better, the entire frame is being replaced, and the threshold is going to be lowered (right now it is about 2 inches higher than the floor). I’ll have to see what I think after the door is installed in a couple of weeks but right now I am happy we went this route.
