Dining room still a work in progress but not finished!

last modified: 4 years ago

This post was started over 18 months ago and we've come so far!!

I love my new dining table and chairs and would love recommendations for a new sideboard, curtains, and everything in between. The wall color is SW sea salt and the ceiling tray is a self-made color. I’d like to incorporate my lamps and mirror. The rug was put in here temporarily but can be changed. I’d love to incorporate pinks/blushes if it’s right for a DR.

Flo, Im glad its warming up and know y’all have been through hell. I remember you saying you worked at the electric company for many years and never would have expected this to paralyze a state. I pray for many days of warmth and sunshine to melt that nasty ice. The pictures we are seeing are horrible and glad you are safe. This week we’ve had major flooding and by the grace of God my house was spared unlike my neighbors. Funny how you pointed out the top of the curtains. I have fought with them and will continue. If i lower the pins they will need to be hemmed. Do you have any tips is making them hang correctly?

Lizzie, the color before painting it Dove tail was Sea salt. I liked the sea salt but the Dove tail is so rich looking. So many compliments!!

I actually loved the way you hung the drapes...when Ethan Allen did my drapes years back that is exactly how the installer hung them..very east coast looking....

RJ - yes I spent many years in power construction and operation. We have been screaming for 20 years for upgrades to the grid and no one would listen. It seems we can only change once everyone has suffered greatly. 7 people died in our county alone. Just from people doing desperate things to not freeze to death. This is serious problem across the country. You can’t rely on renewables for what we call “baseload” generation. It’s fine for some supplemental uses but it cannot support today’s electrical needs. And as electric cars become more affordable, powering these vehicles will stress grids beyond their capabilities. So changes are needed. As to your art up stairs, you might try something like this. As to drapery, your dining room seems more sophisticated than coastal to me so perhaps some stiffer interlining in the headers would help. Still soft but not droopy.

With suggestions I moved around my male shift frames and wanted to hear your thoughts. I did the two with 5 - separated further apart, then one with 7 and a grouping in the first wall. This wall has been blank way too long and so ready to see my family smiling at me!!

I think this works. You need one on the angle wall so there is visual coordination with staircase. The trim work on your staircase is really beautiful!

That works great..and once photos are in it will be so wonderful! This set up has purpose and balance..3 on each large wall perfect!

Of course your dining room is not coastal...just the drapes in the photo I posted show a softer looking top I really like and with your dining room being used by family a lot in a casual way I like that they have a soft casual style...just my take on it.

Flo, I read your comments and not sure what you mean by the adding silver. Do you mean to the foyer light or in the DR?

I’ve had a time with my curtain rings and went to walmart to get some rings just to hang them. The rings are not quite as big as the square rings but I can finally see them hung. I made a few adjustments and absolutely love them.

This is the art I have and waiting on the mattes to come in and then picking the frames.

So here’s a big question. Do I need a foyer rug? Earlier in the post we said to put a settee and Im all for that. I’ve narrowed it down to and would like your help in making the right choice. The wall space is 61” wide and the first one is the inspiration pic. Any help will definitely be appreciated.

I meant on the foyer chandelier. You are mixing metals which is fine. Just a touch of more champagne would add a bit of custom look to your chandelier. The drapery in your last photos looks very nice. I am sure you will play with them as needed. We are moving in a week so I am going to be doing window treatments too! Trying to repurpose ones I have so wish me luck!

Love this one. Normally, I would want arms but for your entry it won’t be used for sitting so this has great lines.

When we picked out the art for the DR we were hoping for a grouping and with the size of my odd size art, wainscoting and matting I can only hang 3 pictures. I went to different stores trying to get my pictures in a 16x20 frame but it doesn’t look good. With that i have to go up in frame size that isn’t standard and have less pics. I bought a frame and ordered the matt material. The frame can be painted to fit in. The lady I purchased the pics does not sell the matt sizes I need and I don’t think I can send the art back. Do you have any suggestions that can help me make this work?

    What size are the print?

The paper size is 13x19 and the border of the art is 10.25x16.25

Here is what the frames would look like with one or three.

I ordered the white matt but wanted to hear thoughts on the gray. Should I stick to the white or go with a color

After 7 weeks of waiting, I finally received my curtain trim. The first time I ordered the color was not as stated so I had to eat that. Now, this one has more of a white back ground and the trim doesn’t seem to have any backing to iron onto curtain. How does this trim work with my dining room?

Not sure you need it. Color looks off from here, but can’t trust the Internet!

RJ03 would you tell me about the chandelier and console you chose for your dining room?

    Wow the trim is fabulous!!!

    Love love love it!

You need to buy the wide iron on tape for the trim...you will iron it on with trim facing down and iron on the back side..

Flo, I think that picture has way too much yellow in it. My almost new phone acting up!

Lizzie, I’m pretty sure the table came from Wayfair. It was listed on several sites but Wayfair had the best price. Also, my favorite, the chandelier, I LOVE!! I’m so sorry but i ordered that from my work computer and cant find my information on my phone. I will post the information on Monday. It was listed on many sites for 1200 or more and luckily I found it for less than half.

    Julie, I love your reaction!!

@RJ03 You have chosen such elegant pieces that have all come together so beautifully. I would appreciate if you have the time on Monday to post. Happy Mother's Day!

Thank you so much for remembering! :))

Lizzie, I can't take any of the credit for my dining room. These ladies have been wonderful to me!! Thankfully, Flo posted a screenshot of the light. Before all the price increases I think I paid $650.00. I did an image search and it popped up about 8 different locations with a variety of prices. It was more than I ever thought I would pay but so happy with my decision to splurge!!

Thanks for the shout out, but this is a team effort. You did all the leg work on site and your home has really come to a beautiful spot. Might want to post some photos from the front door and hallway into the dining room. Such a beautiful job you have done!

Your chandelier is gorgeous. Thank you so much for posting the information for me. I wish you much happiness in your lovely home.

Finally, picture frames are hung. Now to order the pictures. This was an ordeal that has been sitting in my foyer for 4 months. Last night, I had enough and said I didn’t need a man to hang my pictures. He’s in the dog house and I’m gloating!!

    Your entryway is stunning!

Has it really been 2 years since your first post. Where did time go.

    Your home now looks stunning.

Beautiful!! You did a great job. @Robi J would you remind me how you transformed your chandelier?

Thank you!! i will not take any credit. Everyone is so helpful and if weren’t for everyone’s help, I would be out buying more paint samples to start painting the DR for the 6th or 7th time.

My foyer chandelier transformation? I cleaned it, took the top crown off, painted it and hung it lower! Whola!!
