I"m so happy you are doing this! This oversized wall is going to look stunning with more of a mantle to accent your space. The wall is an awkward shape so I would not recommend extending the mantle to the top of the ceiling, however if you place your tv on top and choose and elegant lighting fixture to take up the remainder of the space above the tv, this would be an excellent way to tie it all in.

I personally like having my TV placed at eye level for a seated adult. The mantel of most fireplaces is too high for a comfortable tv-viewing height. You can have a good piece of vertical art over the mantel, and place the tv upon or just above a nice cabinet to the right or left of the fireplace. Most people have the sofa facing the fireplace, if there is one, so a tv to either side of the fireplace is also facing the sofa and chairs.

Thanks, I agree with height of tv comment and looking up—that is why we are lowering mantle a few inches. However, putting to the side just doesn’t work as we’ve done that for a few years and it just doesn’t work with floor plan. I know the pic looks vacant as I’ve removed large majority of items from room so it’s hard to tell. Right now in corner and that doesn’t work eithe. Thanks for your feedback.
