Ikea is a good idea to a point, yes cheaper then custom type, but not the quality. The vanity can be built to your specs on bigger drawers and the look you need to go more with the look of the room and also built better. Ikea is a slam build company built and will not last as long. Yes money is the reason why you do it. Look at if it is a flip or going to live in this home for years to come. It would not be much more to custom with the right cabinet builder. What do you want Ikea look or your look what you want for the room?

As marlo writes, the large, full drawers are great. The amount of storage in each bathroom is more than adequate, and the vanity top is delightfully easy to clean. We also bought the vanities etc. during an Ikea bathroom sale, so the savings was quite good as well (15 percent).

Mountain MT Homes: We plan to live in this house until the kids are moved out, so another 15-20 years! I, personally, would be happy to use Ikea vanities but the "ikea look" is probably what is holding me back. I like the look, but everyone will recognize the "Ikea look".

About quality, I've been pleasantly suprised by Ikea's quality in the past.

Marlo and Becky: Glad to know some people on Gardenweb/Houzz are using Ikea vanities. The large drawers are indeed their best feature.

We put two Hemes/Rattviken in my daughter’s house 2 years ago. The quality is fine and I find nicer than Lowe’s or HD. The storage is great. The style we chose fit perfectly for her rehab.

It depends on the look you want if you will be able to find a configuration that will work for you. They do have several styles. Their Godmorgon is so very similar to all of the wall hanging contemporary vanities you see on the web that are three times the price at least. I’m currently in the planning stage for my master bath and a powder and will first consider IKEA if I can make it work within the space and find a sink that I like. I’m also considering using IKEA kitchen cabinets for the vanities. The sink depth and counterspace are most important in my decision, aside from the drawer storage.

At least with the dark brown Hemnes, I found it was easy with different wall color, mirrors, light fixtures, towels, shower curtains, etc. to give each bathroom a very different look. My sons wanted more of a "cabin" look, mine is blue and white (block print shower curtain, and Chinese export ginger jars on top of the high cabinets, and lots of house plants, including a small palm), and the one used by our daughter is grey and light aqua in what she calls "Urban Outfitters" style : ) .

If you're not doing the installation yourself, keep a very close eye on the contractors, esp if they're not familiar with Ikea.

Ikea's integrated, easy-to-clean ceramic/porcelain countertop with sink is lovely. I'd see if you can somehow find fronts that work with the Ikea top.

Yes. Mine are Delta. You need to use Ikea’s drain though.

Yes. Just look for something to fit one hole.

I always go with Moen, which will always have my undying gratitude for their lifetime warranty. This is also what we did for our Ikea kitchen sinks (Domsjo) -- Moen faucets all the way : ) .

tira_misu - thank you, and yes, it's the godmorgon storage cabinet. It's a bit shallower than the vanity which for our bathroom is ideal, as the bathroom door opens towards it, and the electrical switches that were already there, fit perfectly between door and cabinet.

By the way, our faucets are from Grohe and fit just fine. Just choose a single hole faucet without the thingamabob that opens and closes the drain. That would not work.

pippabean's post reminds me -- don't forget to customize with hardware. The easiest way to avoid the Ikea look is to avoid their hardware.

becky - haha, those handles are the Lansa handles from Ikea. They're just not the handles that come with the Godmorgon. We chose them, as the only towel bar in this bathroom sits to the right of the vanity. Awkward for the person who uses the left sink. The Lansa long handles hold wet washcloths and towels without any bad effect, as the gloss surface does not suffer from prolonged contact with water.
