It's not a dracaena - it's a Ti plant, Cordyline fruticosa, perhaps the variety 'Red Sister' but there are many with pink or red edges.

The suggestion to rinse well under a decent stream or spray of water is a good one. It will remove the spider mites as well as mealy bugs, should either be the case. The mealies may require a bt of encouragement for removal like swabbing down the leaves and stems to make sure you have gotten rid of as many as possible.

i would propagate some smaller pieces ... being very aggressive in cleaning them [a much easier job] .. and when those have rooted.. i would get rid of the old monster ... and to be clear ... when they say rinse it with water ... they mean a spray just short of ripping up the tissue ... not just a low pressure rinse ....

getting a new plant rooted... is changing your very old plant.. into a vibrant new babe ... plus the new media.. etc ... by the time you are done.. you will probably have duplicates to spread all over the family ... or friends ....

and.. while i was rooting some cuttings.. i would leave the old plant alone .. until i succeeded with rooting new ones ...

btw: besides the webbing.. have you seen any other damage consistent with mites??? .. its called stippling ....

ahh if thats the case. this will have to wait for warmer weather to get the hose out. and i will lhave to hope nothing gets worse!

i took two cuttings for now to see how it will go. hopefully they root!

If you're going to keep the original plant it needs a bigger pot.

I just use a spray bottle or pour water from a watering can when washing off a plant. I don't use anything high-pressure or strong enough to nearly rip the leaves!

Just the shower spray or kitchen faucet spray attachment will work perfectly well!! We are not talking power washer here :-)

This is not necessarily the case at all. Root pruning will eliminate a need for constant up sizing with the pots. Many times there is a limt as to how large a pot one can manage easily and root pruning on a fairly routine basis is the way to accommodate that.

i was thinking of spraying a little neem oil as well mixed with water.

how do i know if the spider mites are gone?

i should probably just keep the plant isolated from the rest for a month or two just in case right?
