I am zone 8b & though the foliage came up & looked wonderful, I never had a single bloom.

Tuberoses bloom the first year only if the bulbs are of decent size. If you get the bulbs fro. a reputable source you will have a better chance really. Otherwise all they do is multiply and just produce foliage.

@tropicofcancer have you divided your bulbs yet? After a few years you need to divide since they multiply so fast.

They do multiply fast. How do you divide them? Plant individual bulbs or break them up into smaller clusters of bulbs? There seem to be tons of those.

Empty the whole pot before the shoots are up. Look for the largest bulb. This is your mother bulb. If you have lot of small bulblets surrounding it you can break those and pot them up separately if they are of decent size. Otherwise discard them. If your bulbs have not bloomed for 2 years or more it's better you start fresh with new ones.

This post reminded me to divide mine. They didn't bloom last year. Hoping division will allow some to bloom this year. They seem to need a long growing season and sometimes go dormant before they’ve grown long enough to bloom.

They do need a long time. In zone 7a Northern Virginia mine bloom around August-September and if lucky till October. I had a beautiful flower stalk forming in October before moving them indoors which didn't bloom because of the move. If the mother bulb is of decent size and you divide the surrounding bulblets you could get it to bloom this year. Give it some good fertilizer and it should go back to blooming this year. Good luck!

I just planted three bulbs and it's still in the high thirties outside. I wonder if I should bring the pot in?

Better to get them inside Mike. You don't want to lose the new sprouts or you run the risk of loosing the buds.

I don't really get what is the trigger to get them to bloom. I suspect they don't like being crowded, but don't mind a smallish container either if that makes sense? I had two large pots with 3 mature clumps in each pot (these were purchased as premium sized bulbs or mother clumps). The most I would get is 2 or 3 inflorescences per year.
Earlier this year, I removed a small clump and repotted it into a 1 gallon container and it's throwing up an inflorescence this month. Go figure?
