Porcelain tile with epoxy grout for bathroom for easy cleaning. Porcelain tile with epoxy grout, or hardwood flooring with oil based poly for kitchen. Both clean up easily.

It depends on your situation, where you live, how you live, what you care about. For example:

- my Dad recently put in CoreTec which is one of the many brands of waterproof wood-looking floors. The reason he chose this is because in the winter there might be people slopping in some slush and snow on their boots; in the summer there might be people with mud on their boots from a hike.

- in my current house, I have hardwood floors throughout, including the family room, kitchen, formals, master bedroom and master bathroom. Even though people always say to not have wood in the bathroom, this is not a problem for us. The real problem is the kitchen. This is a work zone. Would a chef put a hardwood floor in a restaurant? No. We are constantly wiping up drips and dribbles, the dogs drip after drinking water from their bowls. And if you have an applicance leak, such as a dishwasher or fridge, it is really bad for the wood floor, maybe even requiring a full sanding and re-staining. In my opinion, hardwood floors are a real PITA in a kitchen. We have them because they were here when we bought the house. If I were choosing now I'd put a waterproof wood-looking product. All the flooring brands have their own version of this type of flooring.
