Not really good photos to judge from. Go for function over form and try track lighting for best overall effect. I also highly recommend you add LED lighting under the upper cabinets to light your work area as well.

That is not a kitchen fixture! Maybe it will work in your dining room if you need one there. You can probably sell it on Craig's List for some cash toward new lighting.

I actually think track LED track lighting would be perfect in that space and the one there can go instantly in the trash what a completely useless light even in a DR. Center lights in a kitche cast shadows everywhere a combo as mentioned of a good LED lighting in a track and under cabinet with daylight bulbs in 3500- 5000k will also keep the white looking white and the gray looking gray.

how about something like these? (you want multiple bulbs, that give you at least 200 watts or more of light. temp of the bulbs should be in the 4000K range for nice, daylight bulbs.

of course you would get something in the silver metal.

you may need to find a light that has a sloped ceiling adapter
