Yes, the TV is sitting on the fireplace and we will plan to mount it above the fireplace.

I happen to like your wall color as is but you need to incorporate it into the space with pillows that color and a color from the rug instead of random blue and black that works with nothing

Are you planning to paint just the TV room or also the kitchen? If you're just painting the TV room, I'm wondering where the kitchen color would end on the door/fireplace wall, just to get a perspective on a complementary color. Where the fireplace begins?

Your rug is a winner. Nice choice. Add like colors to the window treatments. Black ottoman in front of sofa MUST go away.

Suggest you change the throw pillows, keeping in mind the colors of the rug.

we are planning to just paint the tv room. Should I leave the fireplace white? It’s just primer now. The pillows are returnable. Just testing. And I’ve always hated the ottoman but haven’t found a new Coffee table/ replacement.

Most of the kitchen will have backsplash. It is small and there is not a lot of wall space. Here are pics of the wall where the kitchen and tv room meet.

push the rug back so the front feet of the sofa are on it. Or, move the sofa forward a foot so the feet are on the rug. Behind the sofa you could put a long, skinny sofa table and stick some lamps or something on it. Do a giant art piece on the wall.

I like the marble topped table^. You have any left over countertop? cut it and place it on something your find at yard sale or online.

I think that far wall would look great painted in black, or the dark blue/gray from your rug.

Imagine something like this color (not the decor items) for the wall

or this blue/black. get yourself a warm stain color wood mantel.

I did a quick photo shop of your room w/dark wall, a new modern fan light, and a black/white picture

bring in one of those mcm style tables, and maybe a pouf in black, or the camel leather color.

Maybe a little side table like this for the side of the sofa.

remove the fan and replace with a sputnik type of light

you could also do some shelving like this behind one of the sofas

for sure lose those white blinds and do something like these.

You can't paint the TV area without painting the kitchen, too. I don't see any stopping point. You could do an accent wall on the end as Beth shows.

I like the current color. I pulled the loveseat off the wall and up to meet the sofa, and changed out the blue pillow because it seemed too random and didn't fit. Pulled the rug under the sofa, added the Seguro coffee table from Crate & Barrel, and a big piece of art on the back wall.

It does look to me like you can paint the TV room without painting the kitchen, ending the kitchen color where the door wall meets the fireplace. Since you're hesitant to make that room too dark, I like Beth H's suggestion of only a dark blue-grey accent wall, which goes nicely with your rug and brown couches. And yes, I'd paint the fireplace a soft white. I'd keep the pillows in lighter colors, ivories, pale blue-greys, pale orange/terra cotta. The black ottoman doesn't seem to fit in the scheme, so I'd suggest replacing that at some point.

Thanks for all the input! It doesn’t make sense for me to move my couches forward as this room serves as the main passage way to the other side of the house. I do like the dark blue charcoal color. Would you suggest that I paint the one wall that color and the the fireplace white and the rest of the walls a white as well? Here is a photo of the wall with the big couch on it

The art behind that sofa is too small (and hung too high). Normally you want a picture that is 2/3rds the size of your sofa.

Drjacobs, it's precisely because this room is a passageway that it makes sense to move the sofas forward. The purpose is to make the traffic go around instead of through the seating/TV-viewing/conversation area.

Here’s a picture of the view from the front door if move the couch onto the rug. there are 2 feet of walking space between the hearth and the couch And 32 inches behind the couch.

Thanks for the recommendation Celerygirl. I had almost that exact blue in my garage and went ahead and painted it. Room is still in disarray while it dries.

i have a tough time picking the right white color. Can anyone offer a recommendation for a good white to paint the fireplace and the other walls.

The blue wall looks good.

for white, try Simply White. Or, just use the Base White right out of the can. no tinting. it's a fresh, crisp white. That's the white I use.

Simply White is pretty Neutral too.

I ended up using super white which I think is way too white But I’m still trying to decide. I only painted the one wall. My husband thought the fireplace and the trim should be a different color than the wall but I’m not so sure since we already have the accent wall. Thoughts on this? Here are the pics. the second I a pic of where the wall meet the kitchen cabinets since it needs to coordinate with those.

I love white painted brick fireplaces, but when it's against a white wall, I agree with your husband that it should be a discernably different color. Maybe a pale beige or linen in this case? I would leave all the trim white, though.

Are you doing a wood mantel? once you get all your furniture situated and you accent pieces, it will come together. Doing a darker ceiling fan will help

And getting some new window blinds (woven woods or a roman blind w/blues/gras)

will offer a needed contrast on that wall.

Your white paint is too white you told. So I think you can go with not such a bright white or with off-white or light-light gray to make pop up FP.

I will put a wood floating mantle up and mount the tv. Does anyone have any color recommendations with the name of the color? I like the idea of gray but Remember my wall color runs up against the gray cabinets. Any then the trim should be a different color, right? It’s currently a creamy white. I think white dove.

Crushed Ice from SW is a very pale gray.

in my room I used BM Gray Cloud (shown here on the walls)

Welp I still haven’t gotten around to painting just yet. I like the idea of the gray wall but does anyone see any issues with this being right up against my gray cabinets? My kitchen is all gray and white and open to my more colorful living room.
