Hi all... My husband and I are in the middle of a complete renovation of our future home. We both agree that we generally want a traditional style throughout -- think white baseboards, luxury vinyl tile, greige paint colors, etc. In one room, we have a stone fireplace. My husband loves the "cozy ski lodge"/"rustic hunting cabin" look and would really love that style in the fireplace room only. The problem is that we have a very open floor plan, so the fireplace room will be separated by our main family room by three pillars and a half-wall bookshelf. It's openly visible from our front entryway, staircase, and kitchen. I think that decorating the fireplace room in full-blown rustic style is out of the question because it would clash too much with the rest of the house. Is it possible to put just enough rustic "elements" in the room to give off that "ski lodge" vibe without clashing with the traditional elements of the rest of the house? If so, what "elements" would you recommend? Or is this a no-go from a design perspective? I suggested maybe covering the wall beside the fireplace with wood, or putting some wood beams on the ceiling, or painting one wall with a rustic hue, but I'm afraid even those might clash too much... This is all new to us so all the design decisions have been a little overwhelming. Thanks so much in advance!
