Owned a comercial photo studio for 13 years. You want a comforter that is not too busy. This comforter set would go very nice with the rug and drapes you already have. Steam the wrinkles out when you put it on the bed. Press the pillow shams with spray starch t get them to stand up and look smooth and crisp.

You table you are using for a night stand is cute, I like it. The one you showed a photo of is very "standard" looking. Stage the night stand with 2 books and a green plant.

Here are a couple of photos that will help you see what I mean for "staging" the items in the night stand. I tried to find some with no lamps since you have the wall lamps. Ignore the lamp in the second one.

I think for a photo shoot a thinner coverlet or comforter that can be tucked in will suit your upholstered bed best. Then bring the rug colour onto the bed with throw pillows/throw. I’ve included a photo for inspiration and I think you could also consider some woven blinds under your curtains, and the style of nightstand they’ve used would be a nice option for you.

Great ideas, Jamie, thanks! I wouldn't have thought to starch the linens, but now it makes sense that that's how they get them to look so good in photos, LOL. We will have a designer on hand who will do some styling but I'm going to give her something like what you've shown to start from.

Marlene, do you think a white coverlet would look good? I've had my eye on one. Would be nice to have for the summer too.

I’m confused. Are you staging to move or will you be staying? If the latter, I assume you want things that will work for you living there long after the photo shoot?

No, we're staying. I just want it finished and looking nice before we do photos, and I'm a little stuck on these couple of things. I won't be buying anything we wouldn't be buying anyway.

Ok, so if you’re staying, what do you like, functionally, in a bedside table? Closed storage for medicines or other stuff? Shelf for books or reading materials? Place for iPad? Water Bottle? All this should inform what kind of bedside table you want as well as what looks good. In my case, that meant a bedside table with one drawer for closed storage, a shelf for reading materials, and a glass top (cut to fit a wood table) so water bottles, etc would not be a problem.

Flo, I love the touches of black! I hadn't considered that for nightstands, have only been looking at wood tones. I wish I could put a bench at the end of the bed but what you can't see in the photo is the pony wall that's only about two feet from the bed.

Sam, my ideal table would have one drawer with a shelf. I need a little closed storage, a place to charge my phone, and a spot for a book or two. Plus I like to have some bits of decor. I can't go wider than 26" so that's a factor. I like the idea of a glass top actually since my husband does like to keep a water bottle on his side. Hadn't thought of that!

The trick with photos is you can trick the eye. So you can consider a bench that you could use for photo session and return. Or a smaller stool that could be moved to the corner of the pony wall.

Or a smaller stool like this one. I like repeating shapes and colors. Preferably 3 times.

The campaign night stand works because it repeats the brass on your wall sconce lamps and the size looks reasonable. Especially the height. Make sure the height is good. Should be as you've shown it, at top of mattress. The pillows look too "coral/pink" for your rug and drapery. I would repeat some black in the pillows. Love the art piece.

Ugh, that table sold out before I could order it. I found another campaign style table with x legs that might work. I went and picked up the pillows with my fingers crossed because my curtains are an odd pinky-red, but you're right, Flo, they don't work. All in all, a disappointing decor day.

How about a navy blue campaign night stands. Here is one from William-Sonoma.

It would probably work (there's blue in the rug) but I'm not a fan of blue in general.

Yea, I thought there was blue in rug. The hex legs are nice too. I still like black if you can find it. That would tie in the art etc.

They have some campaign style nightstands at Wayfair. Can't vouch for the quality but the price is reasonable.

tartanmeup, thanks for looking! I do think black would look great. It's sooo hard trying to find the perfect combo -- one that has the right look/color, with the elements that I want, that's the right size, in stock, and the right price! I don't know how the pros do it without going crazy.

off topic, but read when staging a home to take snapshots of what you have staged so you can see what the buyer would see without any emotion.....you can style and take pics as you go so you can see what is glaring and what works...good luck and how exciting to be published.....let us know what you decide.

Wider nightstands and classic bedding. Those drapery panels are not hanging correctly at the windows.

I agree with Beverly, get as big of a nightstand as will fit with a little space around it.

I agree too with getting something that fills the space. So far width has been less of a problem to find than height!

The curtains break a lot of rules. They aren't 2 1/2 times the width of the window, are pinned up at the bottom for length because I can't bear to cut them, have a couple of tiny holes in them -- and I wouldn't trade them for all the proper curtains in the world. They are a vintage find from one of the Paris flea markets. Anyway, I can make them look neater than that, I just flung them open for the pic. :)

What is height of your mattress? I do love this from West Elm. Might be worth a call to see if you could get lucky?!
