Thank you so much for your reply and help !! I really appreciate it. This is my first post on houzz and I didnt think anyone would reply so thank you and I will go back to my designer with your ideas. The brick look wouldnt work because that isnt the design look am going for in the basement and house however its looking like I need to do the whole wall with the tile.

What if the floating shelf was 6 feet long as long as the wall/bar behind the sink and was flush against the upper end of the tile so there is a stop and perhaps it wont look like its incomplete? I dunno I havent seen much online with that idea. The majority is the whole wall covered.

If you put floating shelves that just go up to where you originally wanted to stop the tile then it may work. Another way to do the shelves is a rectangle box. The section of the wall without tile may look ok as long as the colours match up. I think it would look better if you stop the shelves where the counter ends instead of going all the way across.

Your designer might be right about it. If you try to make it look too complete it might look too busy. There are quite a lot of photos for bar shelves online. Here are a few for bars including a couple examples of the box style shelves.

Thank you all for your advice and pictures !! the 3rd picture irene posted with the backsplash tile not going all the way up is similar to what I will have. That was my fear, it looks incomplete but its not that bad.
