I have what is called a Dug out basement. The bench walls inside the basement are 4 ft tall and about 26" from the original crawl space wall. The house is 1955 and basement was dug in the 70's. It leaks like crazy! Water comes in between the wall and floor and because we can't get behind the bench wall, we can't stop the water. The people who did the dig out pit the french drain under the floor at the bottom of the Bench Wall and i have a feeling they are either partially clogged or broke. No one knows what to do and i am told not to do any digging to install drainage around the outside of the house because it could jeopardize the foundation..I don't see how putting in some french drains around the house at about 12 to 14 inches could hurt the foundation. Any advice on how to deal wth this?
