I'm curious too, but in any case, when growing edible things, in my opinion it's probably easier to provide a wide range of minerals and soil nutrients that the plant wants, just by adding compost and natural mulch and maybe a little fertiliser if wanted. When growing things in water you have to be much more scientific about what nutrients you add to the water, because nothing is there unless you add it. I enjoy the naturalistic approach to gardening: watch a seed grow, give it compost, see it enjoy the sun and the air and the soil.
