How long ago were these shades installed?

Do you have windows that will accommodate the cellular shades from IKEA? They are far less expensive, and at least you won't feel terrible if they only last 5 years or so.

Wow those are quite thewindow valances. Could you post a picture of the whole space. Do you need privacy or heat and UV help a bit more info please . I usually use solar shades for daytime privacy and heat and sun control and then drpes for nightime privacy. The advantage to solar shades is during the day you get to keep the view .

I would use no valances but curtain panels.
