Have you thought of something like Elfa? 30% off installation according to The Container Store website. You were thinking of doing the Pax units without doors? They're huge, heavy things and difficult to move so not a best option if you need access to a hatch on the floor.

If you share pictures of your closet, perhaps it will spark other ideas.

I second the Elfa/Container Store idea, assuming they have one in your area. Bring the dimensions of the closet with you to the store, tell them what you need in terms of shoe storage and hanging space, and they will do the design for you with all the Elfa pieces you need to complete the design. And their installation service is totally worth it, with or without the discount.

Closets are like snowflakes--literally no two closets are alike. Your access space hatch is a perfect example. I highly recommend getting a quote from a custom closet company. They will design a custom - cut closet to the specifics or your room and storage needs. Ironically when I quote a closet in Classic White Melamine it comes in around the same cost as the ELFA system.

Compare shop and you will feel confident in your decision. Share your photos when your project is done!

WHAT??? 20 inches of depth is not enough for hangers. Your closet entry door should be centered (opposite the window) giving you 29 inches of depth on each long wall. Your flooring delay is a blessing. Relocate the doorway and use a regular swing door. The interior wall framing required for a pocket door is seldom sufficient to support the weight of a closet rod.
