When constructed in 1992 our home had run of the mill contractor grade kitchen cabinets. Truth be told the whole interior was extremely bland so we took it upon ourselves to remodel the entire two story interior back to a simple yet tasteful style one might find in the early 1900's. To illustrate one example of our project I choose to show you one of the more difficult projects. That being the kitchen cabinets makeover.

One note: due to sudden onset of a chronic illness a number of years back I have not able to complete some detail work. We hope to have that work completed by contractors.

The cabinet makeover. I removed the doors of the contractor grade cabinets from their solid oak frames and built new oak inset doors. Each door had to be built to the exact dimensions of the frame opening. The inset doors are equipped with true English made "H" hinges and pewter pulls. To ceiling small capacity cabinets were constructed from scratch. All painting was done by hand in a manner consistent with early techniques. I give the cabinets instant age by rubbing on a tiny amount brownish oil stain here and there. All imperfections on the cabinets and hardware are intentional.

Great care was taken in sanding off the existing cabinets oak frame clear coat and prepping old and new material for painting. After a thorough de-greasing to remove natural oils from my hands all woodwork was sanded using progressively finer dry sandpaper, wiped down multiple times with tack cloths, primed, re-sanded, wiped down again with tack cloths and finished with two coats of premium SW semi-gloss paint then lightly wet sanded. The resulting finish is easily cleaned.
