I'd start by moving the TV off of the fireplace onto the long wall where the chairs are with a low console under it. Then you can pull the sofas closer, creating a traffic path behind one so people coming down the stairs don't have to cut through the room. A nice large rug should help ground the space.

Agreed about the rug suggestion above ^ You need to layer in some textiles to soften the space.

Remove one of the chairs.

side the love seat away from the sofa and put it on the staircase wall.

Put one of the two chairs on the kitchen side.

Move the sofa off the wall so people can walk behind it rather than in front of it.

Remove the little door mat rug, not needed.

Invest it some artwork.

If I was yo I would close off that weird little doorway to the kitchen, since you have a huge one just passed it.

We really need the measurements of the room to fully help but this is my best guess.

When you buy new.

do not buy a sectional or sofa love seat. buy a sofa and two chairs.

Consider moving the tv

Pick items that are not overstuffed or over sized.

I would:

- eliminate beige armchair/sofa

- put teal armchair in it's place (in the corner, next to window)

- move love seat and sofa closer to fireplace wall (so that you can walk behind them)

- put a rug

- put some artwork on the big wall behind armchairs

The rug and coffee table are too small and you have a traffic pattern through the center of your seating arrangement, never a good thing.

You can use your current furniture to test new arrangements for your future furniture. I would put the TV over a long console on the wall where the chairs are now, put a sofa facing it, two chairs facing the fireplace with 3' of walk space between chairs and the stair wall, then perhaps one more chair to the right of the fireplace to form a conversation group.

The arrangement described above will make TV viewing more comfortable and keep traffic out of the seating group.

First you need a fairly large rug (8'x10') to tie everything together centered in the room. I would move the long couch to the wall where the chairs are now. The loveseat by the stair wall but out at least 3 feet from the wall to give you a walkway behind it so no one has to walk through the viewing/conversation part of the room. Angle the recliner kitchen side to face e fireplace. Smaller chair where the recliner is now to take advantage of natural light for reading with a table and lamp.
