I would skip the metal-gets hot-plus they bend and scar easily. The plastic faux wood is awesome! I design and have a house in Alabama (Live in GB WI right now) and they have done great there. Also, plantation shutters are awesome looking, and timeless.

Mini blinds are often a 1/2'' or 1'' slat in a vinyl or metal material. What has started replacing mini blinds is 2'' faux wood blinds, either in a vinyl or composite material. Both materials can withstand intense heat if they are from a quality manufacturer. Hunter Douglas make a great faux wood blind for environments like the Florida sun.
