A plant in the car is a truly novel idea. Heat in a car (even with the windows cracked) will be intense, and most plants stop growing when the temperature rises above 78ºF then revive when night time temperatures drop. Perhaps a succulent would work. Living Stones (Lithrops ssp.) from South Africa are heat tolerant and require a dry situation. Nonetheless, watch for sunburn which would appear as a translucence to the leaves.

Hope you will get a plastic one for that...it will cook in hot weather...and glass container as shown will make it even worse. Plants in mostly enclosed containers suffer in more even conditions, and heat in the car will make it even worse.

Humm... I am thinking about beware due to Rina's comments. But seriously in western Washington try Rhipsalis or that tribe. There are many leaf shapes.

Interesting, I'm getting mixed responses. I definitely don't want to damage any plant so I'll proceed with caution. But I do want to experiment. A living stone is a good suggestion thank you. I was also considering an air plant or some sort of flowering cacti. Also, considering an alternative location to the dash. I believe that every situation would be different depending on variables, plant, vehicle type, tint, parking locations such as home, work, other,,, If all fails ill have to go with something like this

Rob that's a great suggestion! it would tolerate dry soil and bright sun. They look really cool! I like those a lot. Problem with being a plant lover, you want one of everything ;P

At least at my location, any living organism would be cooked to clear jelly in one afternoon during hot weather. And almost any would freeze to mush in winter.

Not worth messing with if you leave car in sunlight in summer or remove it from your greenhouse in winter.

Plants are living things, like puppies are, and babies are. Plants deserve care and respect. Thinking of them as "décor" and keeping them in entirely inappropriate environments is not loving them.

Cyntia, it is pulled from the web. As to your supposition that some of us have never pulled a weed, it's odd how ill-mannered responses can get when someone doesn't get the support they think their idea deserves, isn't it?

Cyntia, very good point. "Weeds" are living things too and people generally just rip them out. Also many popular "annuals" are in fact tender perennials but they're left to die in the cold or heat every year.

lol true, the web can be a powerful tool. I'm not here to judge anyone, I understand why someone wouldn't agree with having a companion car plant. But, I also know myself and believe that we all have to have a little more trust and understanding for one another choices, as long as life isn't being hurt in the process.

Anyway. I've come to a compromise maybe the best spot for a car planter is on the outside? I've seen RVs with them on the rear windshield :D

Maybe succulents. I can't imagine anything else not being shredded by that much wind. But it seems kind of dangerous. It could fall off and hit a car behind you.
