Thinking about putting in a Bilco door. I need to be able to get larger objects in and out of my basement than the interior staircase will allow. The house is ~3600 square feet, in a "nicer" new construction neighborhood. Would a Bilco be considered appropriate for a situation like this, or are they too "commercial" looking? I personally don't care all that much, but would not want to annoy the neighbors. I do know that the builder will not install them for some reason. Thanks for any replies.

By the way, I do have a code egress window, but it's not large enough to move things in and out through. I guess enlarging that is a possibility as well.
