Should i paint, replace or leave this golden oak trim?
I had the floors redone (red oak/neutral) and pulled off the old baseboard oak trim (not smart). Now im unsure if i should replace the baseboard with white and paint the rest of the window and door trim, or replace with the old golden oak (3.25 inch tall) or maybe a go with new 5.25 inch tall golden oak trim? Any suggestions? It seems that the golden oak kind of works with my paint. Please let me know what you think.

PRO7 years agoWe also recommend keeping it consistent. Your entire home looks to be the oak style, so unless you want to paint everything white, we would keep it in the oak style.
7 years agoBeautiful house and wood floors. Depends on your taste. The wood trim gives a country home feel. If you prefer a more urban look, in the LR/DR/kitchen install wider white baseboard and window/door trim. Paint the doors and have room dividers trimmed as below. Some people like their upper kitchen cabinets painted white and the lowers in wood.. The BRs don't need to match.

We also have golden oak trim throughout our 1987 house. After much research, I think there are many many factors that go in to the decision to change the oak. First, ask the question-are you staying in the house, reselling, renting? That will drive your decision on what to do, unless money is no object. Personally, I love your decor, especially the dining room. Your oak window casings are beautiful imo, not the skimpy kind like we have. It's the end of 2020 and I'm noticing a trend of mixed woods such as white trim with espresso doors and espresso window casings. We may restain the oak to espresso bc it would look good in our open floor plan and this is our 'forever' home. I think all finishes have their place, depending on the desired style, architecture of the home etc. If you're staying in your home, then do what pleases you. If you're reselling, then consider the trends. I've found several pictures on Houzz of dark window casings that look beautiful. I think white will always be a fresh look and appealing to many potential buyers. Do what makes your heart sing if you are staying a long while. It will be worth the expense.
