Are you wanting serenity or excitement? The former would be cream, the latter that jazzy blue. They're just different looks, IMO, not one better than the other.

If you go light, just put a small rug right on top of it near the door, so mutt-sy can wipe his paws and not track your brand new carpet. You could even just get a sample of the exact same carpet—maybe even have the edges bound like the new rug—for mutt-sy's mucky footsies, and that way the mini-rug won't mess up the overall look of the living room.

I love the cream/blue. I'm one that tires of bold shapes though.

They sell washable rugs now so that would be appropriate and also indoor outdoor which hold up very well.

Cream wool.Navy will make room dark.

I don't think cream would be great if you were having problems with the dog on the jute. I don't love the navy with the sea salt walls.

If you liked the look of the jute, maybe a sisal-look indoor/outdoor rug?

I like the one that is actually on the wood floor now. Do you not like that one? I think it has enough pattern to hide dirt/debris and yet is not too dark. I would not get solid cream because of the tracking by dogs and people.

If the jute rug got smelly, why wouldn't a braided or wool one too? Unless doggie was rolling/rubbing excessively on the jute rug because he/she particularly liked the texture of it.

I'd investigate washable rugs for sure.

I actually like the one the dog's sitting on now as long as you remove the smaller one. I think an all-navy rug would be too dark, and a wool rug isn't good with dogs. Accidents cling and smell with wool.

What don't you like about it? This replaced the smelly jute? I like it a lot. It is not too dark but has enough pattern to hide debris and stains.

Beautiful room, the rug now is gorgeous. I also love how you've mounted your tv. So unobtrusive, yet easy to see.

I like the current rug too. Do you have a coffee table or ottoman? That will break up the pattern you find a bit too much.

As for this room, why is navy blue driving the bus? The only blue I see (besides the rug you want to change) is the pouffs. You should be concentrating on the furniture and wall color.

Hassocks, as my husband calls them, are easily changed out.
