I really like these and that one is pretty and presents well.

About 2 years is the longest I've kept one alive and it declined the entire time... Like suza, I gave them up :(

I do let my phrags sit in water for several days at a time during their indoors stays over winter, never thought to try a pansy that way. Although, I thought my failures were from a lack of providing cool temps as much as anything.

As long as you can provide relatively cool conditions, and keep on top of the water (they hate to dry out..the PBs wrinkle terribly) you can do fairly well with it. I have no idea where you are (heatwise), but for my area (the dreaded South), it's better to keep it indoors in the AC than summer out, it truly barely tolerates 80F, but you know what...neither do I :)

Thanks everyone for the nice and helpful comments. Arthur; it’s a mericlone: Upcountry Puna ‘Keanu Star’. Like most of you, I’ve had depressing luck with these in the past. The growing room it’s in now (and I haven’t had it operating during summer yet) is usually under 75 at a northwest window seems perfect at this point in the year. It’s been getting to the low 60s at night. I’m watching light carefully, and practically drowning it. So far, the plant still looks very nice. Of course I’ll know more when I have the first new growth from it. Yes, the pseudobulbs wrinkle and even worse, those depressing accordion leaves on new growths. And the older ones start looking dry and yellowy. Two years, Bob, I think that’s longer than my limit. Planning another setup for lower level light plants in an even cooler room (that I don’t have to live in). Hoping this one makes it. Gentle, gentle, gentle.

I've flowered them for at least two years running, before I get lazy and let them crinkle and then hate them.

Gotta love those pansy flowers though!

I'm evil, I know. I had to add that it is wonderfully fragrant. My grow room smells like a greenhouse in springtime. I'm going to KILL it if it dies on me! :)

John, I know what you mean. I bought one for the same reason and it did well until I let the greenhouse get to warm and forgot to water it. I kept it on the cooler side, made sure it was in a well draining medium and kept up with the watering until I forgot on day(( I never got it to re flower and it just got real big, wrinkly, and ugly, so I tossed it.

You can smell those a mile away when you walk past them in the greenhouse. The fragrance reminds me of the Zygo's and they are strong too.
