windymess I want them all too!

Beth very nice! Bulletproof appears to be doing very well. How long have you have had it in the garden? I have it coming in spring and it is supposed to be a very slow grower. Has that been your experience?

Peren.all, I purchased Bulletproof years ago, before I was a Hostaholic. It does grow slow. I separated the plant in 2015 into a few divisions and it is still taking it's time to "jump". It does grow faster with morning sun. The plants I have in a denser shade still only have 1-2 shoots each. I do like how Bulletproof and June look together, they complement each other.

Thank you Beth. Oh yes, that would be a great combo!

beautiful blues everyone!..blues are my favorite..I love this thread!..

Abiqua Drinking Gourd in the middle..the other blues are Elegans (I think)..they have self seeded..
    new Blue Mouse Ears..
one ID that I know..Bressingham Blue..it's kind of green..
lots of blues..too lazy to ID haha!..I love the idea of a bed with nothing but blues..but then I've heard that you need green and lime green to make the blues look blue..do you think that's true?..

Beautiful Blues everyone! My favorites.....MBug, your Krossa Regal is a beauty.

And yes, Nicholsworth, I do believe that the blue pops more with greens as they compliment each other.

Totally enjoyed the Blue thread. Thank you all for posting your lovelies

Nicholsworth I also think the contrast of color helps the blues stand out. Otherwise my eyes, expecting to see green in the garden, don’t pick up on the many shade differences.

nicholsworth I agree that blues are best shown off by contrast - however, within the blues there are a great variety of sizes, shapes (mound & leaf) and textures to play with. If you did plant a blue bed and it pleased you then that is all that matters. It is your garden and your eye.

It is somewhat like planting many of the same variety vs. a variety. Some will find multiples serene and restful others will find it lacking. Some will find a mixed collection to be exciting and stimulating but for others it would be jarring. It all comes down to personal taste.

Shadow and oursteelers..thanks for your thoughts..I agree..after looking at the pic of my own path with a variety of colors I think the blues stand out in the mix..especially to me since blue is my favorite!..years ago my neighbor - a non gardener but knows all about it (NOT) - was looking at my new Halcyon and when I said "I love the blue color" she said "they're not blue"..I let it go..but I'm right! Lol..

peren..well said!..I DO find multiples of the same variety beautiful..maybe 3 blue varieties (a small/med/large) with multiples of each?..

steve..I've reposted the same pics a lot..and tend to mention it!..until I can take some new pics I don't have enough..from now on let's just repeat and not worry about it! Lol..beautiful pics are always welcome :-)

Nicholsworth, I love your Blue Mouse Ears growing with the rocks!

Beth, I like your Empress Wu fighting for space with those ferns, I bet she wins!

Sherry..thanks!..the big stones are permanent but the small rocks (squirrel deterrent) will come out..that's a south facing spot - still shaded by the shadows of my tall trees but I'm HOPING with a little more sun they'll grow better than some of my others..I planted the BME in the niches created by the irregular edges of the stones..in my imagination they're going to fill in and be beautiful!..this is the area that I have in mind for "Hootie" my new owl..

"Where is everyone? " I've just about given up on posting. The past couple times everything disappears after I get it all together and hit submit. Still enjoying all of your posts.

Oh my, you have STUNNING blues!

Here are a few of mine,

    Blue Cadet

    Empress Wu

old_dirt please don't give up. Before you hit submit - copy your post. If it disappears keep clicking paste then submit until it comes up. Much less frustrating! If you don't know how to copy and paste just ask.

old_dirt..I lost TWO finished posts..I've seen lots of complaints..I wasn't prepared like peren..I just assume (wrongly so) that everything's fine and then I find out my post is lost sigh..

I tried a pic..it worked..Fragrant Blue behind this variegated no ID..that's a piece of a walnut shell that I put there for scale..should've taken pics without it too..

Dirt- when you hit submit, wait for a while before you click on anything . It happened to me only once to have my post vanish and now I wait a bit. this is what works for me. Hope this helps

Karin..nice blues..your pics of El Nino, Flemish Sky and Kempen Sawblade show how nice that blue hostas look with yellow, gold, lime, and chartreuse hostas..(not sure of the proper color description!)..I bet there's other examples here but since my comment I've been looking for examples..I'm going to reread this thread..

Blue hosta had always been my favourites. The others need them as background, but they are also beautiful when the stand alone. My first had been Blue Angel and that was when I fell in love with blue hosta :-)

    ConnieMay..

is this euonymous?..I don't have it..does the color last all season?..looks nice next to the blue hosta..

    last modified: 7 years ago

Karin..since moving here in 2005 I've planted more blues than any other color..and will probably plant more!..I love all hostas..but blue is special to me..maybe because I have blue eyes??..Lol..loved the color blue my whole life..

Nicholsworth - yes, that is Euonymus. It has more gold in the spring, and is evergreen. There are variegated varieties that keep more contrast throughout the season.

Thank you Oursteelers - that’s a favourite garden. One of the best parts is that it’s next to our swimming pool, so I get a great view from below.

I love this thread - so many beautiful blues! I’ve got to find Deep Blue Sea this year!

ConnieMay..I wish the beauty of new leaves in the spring stayed longer..but that's just mother nature..I doubt if I have enough sun for a gold euonymous..

Thanks everyone. I love all the pictures. I need more blues and this year I am determined to control my impulse to buy golds and gold edge. The picture I posted above is fairly even, but some other areas are out of whack.

What an awesome community of knowledge.
