Braided picket/wide hex tile

I am looking to do a braided picket style backsplash in my kitchen but the few companies I have found that carry this style are priced through the roof (fire clay tile, heath ceramics, Pratt & Larson). Other than the unique dimensions, all I need is a fairly basic field tile.

Any recommendations on where I can find this priced a little more reasonably??

Thanks in advance!

No idea, but that is cool looking tile!

None of that will ever be inexpensive. The average backsplash is under 40 square feet, so even if it's $80 a square, you're still right at 5K for the total install. For THE kitchen showpiece.

If you don't have a large area to tile, it may be worth the money to get what you like.

But if you have 40sq ft to tile, then $45 a sq foot could add up quickly!

do you want the leaf or the picket style? elongated pickets are everywhere

Thanks for the suggestions so far. I may end up having to bite the bullet but with 60 sq ft needed I want to exhaust all my options first.

Your 60 sf of backsplash kitchen is twice as large as standard. There’s no getting away from paying double for everything. The qualified and experienced labor itself is a large part of a good install. That’s 2-4K sunk costs on that alone, just from the size being double. The more complex the tile, the higher the labor number.

Take your budget for the splash and subtract that number, and that leaves you with your rough tile budget. Divide that by 75. Then only look in that budget range. Or, decide that you want what you want, budget be darned, and go for the more expensive tile. Just don’t go for the cheap labor. That’s the start of another one of the , “My tile doesn’t look right...” posts.

Cutting-edge design options tend to come at... cutting-edge pricing. Sorry.

Great pattern choice, I love the way its shown on the second picture.

You should order some samples from Fireclay & see what you think. You might fall in love.

I do have samples...great quality & glazes. I do think I would be happy with a downgraded tile though, so long as I could get the layout I want. Feel free to suggest any other manufacturers I may have overlooked :)

if you want a budget option, then you'll have to look elsewhere besides hand made, hand glazed tiles. you'll need mass produced.

I've posted a lot of similar tiles that are less expensive. either go w/something like that, pick a diff shape, or save up!

Where can I find the tile in the first picture?

So curious, @kbp164 - what did you decide for your kitchen backsplash?

I fell in love with these too - then I visited the tile stores. Fireclay are handmade and they told me many installers won't even touch a design like this because the angles/sizes are not consistent (hand made!). Heath are more reliable but smaller and hence more work for the installer.,,,and they DO NOT have a way to mount them on mesh or other.

    Still searching...good luck to you!

    Gorgeous. Where is this from?

Or I should ask, what is the name of the tile?

Willie-- your backsplash is breathtaking. I'm interested in doing something similar and hope to get a sample from Eso (although I'm not seeing an easy way to do that on their site). From the picture you posted above, it looks like there is some variation in color among the tiles. Is that your doing or is that the natural variation of the white tile?

The tile shop has it in green-21 sq foot. Home depot has it in white.
