I grow beautiful houseplants but fittonia was always a problem and difficult to grow easily. So I threw them out (two different plants in two different years). Life's too short. Go shopping for another kind of plant. ;)

I did try to take off all the old soil and re pot but it was so dry I didn’t want to pry and hurt the roots. I just put it in a new pot and put the good soil below and around it. I’ll try the saucer method. Some leaves are still soft and some are crispy :(

That's what happened to mine. Toss it, unless you like saving plants. Some people enjoy that.

Bingo! There's your problem, did I not say a drainage problem? You've clarified the rootball is so dry it's not taking up water, so your watering is useless as it's going around the roots, not into them, hence still wilting. Crispy is goner sorry to say, the rest may not be.

If you have any hope, gotta get aggressive. W/ a knife, slice vertical slits into the rootball, then pry the roots apart somewhat & then soak the bottom couple of inches in water. Cutting & prying apart will make it take up water if not too late. If it perks up after a while there MAY be a chance.

What Karen said. When a plant/soil gets too dry at times it's can be difficult to get soil to take in water. Dry soil shrinks away from the pot leaving a space between soil and pot then water will just run down that empty space and out the bottom if pot with very little actually soaking into soil.

Let sit in tray of water a couple of inches deep. Also use a fork or pencil and loosen up top soil about half to one inch and slowly water plant a few tablespoons at a time over a half to one hour..just slowly until it seems to be soaking in. The soil is probably mostly peat moss and that type of planting medium tends to shrink up and hard to get moist again after it gets too dry.

She could still be more upright, maybe water 'til more comes out the bottom. I'd put it on a pebble tray (but put something plastic underneath). Next time you repot, l'd put this in plastic, so it doesn't have the clay pot absorbing water off the rootball.
