Rug underneath dining table or no?

Our dining table is the same color as the floor pretty much and we wanted to separate it with a rug , but with our living room rug coming out pretty far and we would only have a small clearance between the two rugs, but would that look ok?

Sea grass perhaps? That way it’s texture and not pattern abutting.

I don't think there's enough room. Is there a chandelier? Regardless, I'd also pull the table away from the wall a little more.

No rug, they are a PITA in anything but a mansion-sized dining room.

That’s a good idea about the chair swap. I didn’t like how the bench blended in with the floor. I was hesitant move the table away from the wall as it might infringe on walkway space to the kitchen but I suppose there is some wiggle room!

From a practical standpoint it will be easier to get in and out of the bench in the back as opposed to the chairs. Also that will break up the wood on wood repetition in that narrow space, although the wood is gorgeous. I have a tight dining room too, which is how I know about the chairs thing. Unless you rarely use the chairs, in which case getting in and out of them isn't an issue and you can move the table out slightly when you have company. For that reason alone I would forgo a rug. I am such a messy eater, which is the other reason for me!

No rug, move the table out a few inches and switch the bench. I don't think you need a rug under the buffet.
Zalco/bring back Sophie! What happend to Sophie? Did they really ban her? I think her opinions were strong (to say the least) but they were always on topic and not personal. I hope she comes back.

I personally like rugs under dining tables as added color and protection for the floor from pulling chairs out. you don't show it, but where is the light for the dining. Ideally the table would be centered under it, centered in the room. Without your coffee station there the table could be centered allowing you to walk around it on both sides. The coffee station looks like it could fit either under the kichen counter, window or beside the table where your rumba is. Moving the bench to below the window would help If you don't want to center the table. Could you show us the rest of the room?

For the lights our builder put in flood lights in the center of the room which we found odd, as we didn’t want to have our guests walking around the dining table on both sides. That’s why we have it in the corner. Everything is very narrow so we thought to make a straight a path as possible. Here is a few other photos of the space when we used to have different rugs, etc (we’ve toned down the teal lol)

Like the teal rug actually and the lambswool throw on the bench. No rug in the dining area, looks crisp and attractive from the vantage point of the living area, let that big rug there be the show case and play off those colors as you have with pillows and accents.

I think if you remove the rug from under the buffet, it will give you more space in your walkway, even just visually. That rug intrudes several inches into the walkway. And it doesn't really add anything.

Actually, I might pull the table more toward the center of the room - or at least out farther from the wall - and try the buffet under the tv (remove that end table). Your rock wall is so stunning, I think it could stand on it's own with no furniture on it and that would make that whole space much more accessible. And you could more easily add a rug under the table if you want.

Nice. I like the bluer rug. Since you don't have regular dining lighting I think it's best to move the bench under the windows leaving enough room to use it comfortably without pulling the table out. It would be interesting to try the table turned the opposite direction with the 4 chairs along the longest sides and the bench under the window, nothing on the walkway side. How many people normally use the table? Remove the rug from the coffee station. Get a larger, higher console for under the tv. Look for something with doors and drawers. Looks like you feed the dog there, a close place to hide dog food?

What a pity that you didn't leave the previous rug. The view of your living room looks like something out of a decorator magazine; it's so visually stunning.

I would definitely move that console out of the dining room and pull the table more toward the middle of the room. It's a pity about the lighting; what a horrible thing he did to your room. At any rate it doesn't appear that you have room for a rug that would be large enough in the dining area to look good and be functional.

Had no idea that rug under the buffet table would be such a huge hit! Lol it was only there to separate it from the floor as they are similar colors and we had an extra runner laying around. We’ll probably do some reconfiguring and will post an update! That large blue rug was getting trampled on by everyone that came in it had to go to another room

We have a room viewer where you can take your photo aand upload the rugs to see them under the table. This will help you visualize the space before commiting to a new rug.
