Wow, Lars, it's really a beautiful piece, but not my choice for a hood. A piano on the wall...talk about a focal point! Hope it's treated for easy cleaning!

I know most of those old pianos are garbage as instruments in spite of their beautiful cases, but this is still sad. :(

Getting that thing up there must have been fun, too! :-O LOL, I said "easy cleaning" in my first post. Even if it's treated with something, I doubt cleaning would be even close to easy.

I'm sure they took the cast iron plate out when they removed the rest of the guts.

I don't know how they managed it, but I think a pipe organ would have been more appropriate.

Come to think of it, Liberace was very much into cooking. He was a fantastic cook. If he was not on the keyboard, you would find him by the stove.

LOL...Liberace! Only difference is the piano here is a bit "tame" for Liberace. I'm thinking his would be gold, gaudy and who knows what else!

Ignoring the bizarre design imbalance--that piano isn't deep enough for proper capture. Why bother if it won't work well. I've seen clever hoods made out of junk, but they did work well too. ;)

But Victoria Eliabeth Barnes would love it (she of the Kingdom Mirror), it would go with her piano-cum-island.

Liberace's pianohood would have been gilded so that it could be wiped clean.

bpath, I thought the same thing. VEB has been in a tizzy about not wanting a vent hood...she better not see this!!

Had they done a bit more judicious pruning--removing the spindles and back, and building bases to extend the legs to the counter--it wouldn't be much different than some of the following examples.

Of course, it would probably look better with one of those expensive ranges or cooktops in the example pics.

This kitchen must have been designed by a big box store. They should have got a kitchen designer.

Weird. Just weird.

But seriously, if you can ignore that the piano-thing is square and wrongly-shaped, you can't ignore that it's ornate ... yet it's installed in a simple kitchen with subway /Shaker cabinets /simple cup pulls ... they don't match. If this piano were cut down, it might've stood a chance in a French-chateau style kitchen. Of course, the room also includes both a chandelier AND goose-neck lamps, so maybe mis-match was the plan?

This looks like Liberace is trying to gain entrance to a vampire coven ... while wearing a cape made from the Pioneer Woman's bedspread. The gilded candelabra on the counter is the perfect touch.

That there is somebody somewhere who truly thought this was a nifty idea leaves me just shaking my head.

I've thought (briefly) about something like this having a woodcarver hubby, but quickly pooh poohed it thinking of the clean up! His carvings can go other places than the kitchen!

Well, any hood is going to be dirty after use. Wood is highly cleanable. It's the bosses that give me pause. :)

Years ago I found a luxury sports car hood in the woods. It was silver colored and I made the mistake of recycling it. Think of the possibilities for a range hood – but not in my kitchen.

When the piano hood gets covered with goop and grease, it can just be moved outdoors and set ablaze — maybe New Year’s Eve.
