More front-to-back depth improves capture at some possible increased risk to head contact depending on many factors. Draw a side view of the configuration and determine whether at the intended mounting height there is any blockage of the cook's sight-lines to pans at the back, and whether bending at the waist to reach pans at the back causes any contact issue.

thanks Kaseki! We're planning to put the hood at 36" above the range (per range instructions), so I don't think that sight lines will be an issue, but very valid point--I'm only 5'2", so definitely not what I normally think of!

Hello! I ended up going with Monsoon II. I haven't used it a ton yet, but it seems INCREDIBLY powerful, probably more than needed. But looks nice and works well!

Sarahmcmurray thanks for sharing this,I am looking into purchasing the Monsoon II but I'm reading reviews stating that they are noisy. Some of these are older reviews so I am hoping it was an error on he older models but wanted to ask about your experience. Any info is appreciated on this. Thank you.

I am also considering the Monsoon I versus Monsoon II. I am concerned that 19.25” does not have as much coverage but that the deeper one will be tio much of a protrusion for my tall husband. I am also concerned with the noise level. The Monsoon DCBL is now the Monsoon Connect. Those supposedly have quieter systems but the Connect is also 19.25” deep. Would love to hear people’s thoughts. What did you end up deciding? I am considering Monsoon II and the Monsoon Connect. While Monsoon II is larger and higher cfm, the Monsoon Connect is considerably quieter with a max cfm of 700. I am leaning towards the Monsoon Connect. I greatly appreciate feedback!
